My running shoes are starting to get a little worn out and I am looking to try something new. I want something light and easy to slip on. I have been looking at Mizuno and Brooks. Does anyone have any preferences?
I have ran in Brooks Ravennas for the past 3 seasons. They are awesome shoes but shoe fit is personal to the individual. Go try them on and see if you like them.
It depends on what you are currently running in, as there is not a perfect model from any brand that will do for each runner. If you do not have a history of injury with your current model, let us know what it is and the collective wisdom that is the slowtwitch forum can point you in the right direction from either brand (while also having some Hoka fanatics come in and hijack the thread). Also, are you looking for a training shoe for high mileage runs, lightweight for speed work, or multi-purpose shoe for all running?
I also switched to Brooks Ravennas for training a couple of months ago and really like them. I raced in Brooks Pure Cadence 3 last year and probably will continue to do so this year. No info on Mizuno other than a baseball glove in the 80s.
I am running in the Ascics GT-2000 right now. I haven’t had any injures or any complaints about them expect my feet seem to overheat during races and that gets to be a little bit uncomfortable.
What are you running in? Is it a neutral shoe or designed for guidance? Lots of great shoes out there including Brooks and Mizuno.
Why are you changing?
Try them on in a store that allows you to run in them and can offer advice, then you must decide what works for you.
Im a big fan of Mizuno runners, and have been using various model for quite a while.
I really liked the Ronins, but these have been replaced the Hitogami, which, although I dont like as much as the Ronins are a great lightweight race shoes. Around 200gms with a 9mm drop. Naff colours though.
The milage staplemate is the wave rider 17, the weight has come down so much that these are now not much heavier than my race shoes, and very comfortable. Steer clear of the wave creations and prophesies, they’re good shoes but too heavy.
The Asics equivalent in Brooks is the Adrenaline GTS. The 15 came out in November, so you may be able to find the 14 on discount, but I would recommend getting the latest as there is no point in falling in love with a phased out shoe. Like a couple of the others, I also run in and love the Ravennas. They are similar to the Adrenaline GTS and your Asics, just with a little less support and a tad lighter.
Both brands make great shoes, but the fit is not even close. Check out the DS Trainer (narrowish) or Tri Noosa if you want a more breathable shoe in the Asics brand. The new Mizuno uppers are very breathable as well. Bottom line, go to a reputable shop and tell them what you are looking for and try on several shoes.
I have run in the Ravennas since the Ravenna 1 and love the shoe unconditionally. Every year I wait until RunningWarehouse.com has them marked down and stock up. I got two pair of Ravennas for $73.00 a piece and a pair of Pure Cadence for $67. Add in the FB15D code (15%) and you have three pair of shoes for wait one pair costs retail, hell I think they even throw in a brooks hat as well. This will be my first year using the Pure Cadence as a “race” shoe but the Ravennas are the best everyday shoe in my book.
