Mission Bay Triathlon....Roll Call

The first triathlon was held by the SD Track Club and run as a run/bike/swim at Fiesta Island. It was won by Bill Phillips; a professor of exercise physiology at SDSU. He holds about 20 masters swim records to this day. I would guess he about 70 years old now.

I saw someone wearing a PT shirt yesterday at the expo. i didn’t intro myself he was hanging out next to the time in training booth with the girl that was baking cookies.

Come on, why not say the first KNOWN AMERICAN TRIATHLON…

When were they actually called ‘Triathlons’?

“The USA is responsible for 99% of the worlds bullshit”…

Quote from American producer Michael Moore, whilst interviewed in front of the Shell International Headquaters during the filming of a documentary.

and if you want MM we will be happy to export him to the country of your choice.

Yeah but amigo you pay the freight bill!

ACtually the US is responsible for cleaning up after 99% of the bullshit made by the rest of the world. Such as bailing out western europe in WWI, WWII, etc.

Hey, that was me in the ST shirt. I didn’t see any ST shirts around today. I was sitting with my brother, mom, and dad, and wearing red shorts and a visor.

I had an awesome day. Great swim, great bike, forgot my number and had to run back for it, and then pushed the run as much as I could.

And it all worked out, first hardware ever, and 1st place in my AG!!! SCORE! What a great 1 yr triathlon anniversery!

I’ll have a full race report and bunches of pictures up later today or tomorrow

Thanks mi amigo, I just found a reason to go play with the ninos. To much mierda de toros around here tonight!

SWEET! Yeah you were standing in the middle of the expo area! You were kind of hot too! Congrats on the hardware!!

since there is documented proof on the US start of triathlon, I would encourage you to cite something in print that supports your claim. Otherwise, don’t get too comfortable in your percieved glory of calling “bullshit”

Also, Michael Moore is a poor example of your claim of American “bullshit” since Michaels only claim is to raise controversy by creating “bullshit” conspiracy theories that are vague in proof and reliabilty.

…and they say Americans are arrogant!!!

Your own Triathlete Magazine, I believe, reported on an event in Italy pre 1974.

Doumented in what YOU can find!

I can only see the USA for what it looks like from the outside, I would not be so stupid to want to see it from the inside.

congrats on the 1st place!

Ah shucks, thanks for the compliment!

Great hardware to pick up for your first podium ever!!! I’ve been pumped all day!

Thanks, hopefully I can keep it going next season…plenty of time this winter to work on my weak run!

<< I saw someone wearing a PT shirt yesterday at the expo. i didn’t intro myself he was hanging out next to the time in training booth with the girl that was baking cookies.

that was Brian Long (PedalinCoastal) and Sian Welch.

I had a flat in La Mesa this morning 30 mins in to our 75 mile ride, changed it but my replacement failed and I was off the back.

So I made my way over to the venue to check it out before heading up the coast for the rest of the day. I ended up seeing a roadie pal of mine racing for Cassidy Clinic, and he was working the venue after their race, so I borrowed his trainer for a couple hours and rode until he was done, then we rode another 3hrs up the coast and back. Did see several people I knew, no ST’rs however.

I had a good swim, 2nd out of the water, decent bike-4th after the bike…my run sucked. No speed at all…finished 9th in my 45-49A/G. So…I met my goal of top 10…but it felt like a letdown after such a poor run.

I enter that age group tonight at midnight. That’s why I skipped the race. I just could not bear to finish wherever I did and spend a year saying, “If I were just one day older, I woulda…”

…although – my 59:02 from 2004 would have had 6th in the 45-49 this year… :-p

See y’all next year!

I finished 7th out of 28 in my AG - had a good swim and bike, but really lost it on the run. Now it’s time to plan the off-season, starting with a few beers.

Actually you probably would have been even faster, as the bike course was shortened, as it’s not short enough! The fiesta island loop was the shorter loop, so I think the bike was more like 8 miles.
