Minoura bottle cage rattle: help

I’ve been having a lot of trouble keeping the Minoura bottle cages secure on my bike seat. I’m not alone with this problem as I know two others who get a constant rattle. We tighten down the bottle mount so they are secure, but 20 miles into a ride they are loose again.

If you have a suggestion on how to fix this, let me know.

Thanks,
Adam

I had this same problem with mine. Two fixes that might help:

  1. Use nylon lock nuts (from hardware store) to secure the bolts. These will help limit the ‘loosening’ of the bolts.

  2. Wrap 1-3 layers of duct tape around the seat posts. This provides some ‘grip’ for the Minora plate, keeping it more secure.

Try some LocTite, the blue kind I believe. That usually takes care of any loosenign screws.

Electrical tape is your friend. Wrap it around the contact points where the seat and the cage intersect. this should help the rattking.

The problem is not with loose bolts but with the plate that is not strong enough. The plate bends gradually and eventually it will end up touching the part that holds the bottle. I tried doubling the plate, using large washers and it would still bend eventually. Finally solved the problem using a machined plate about 2.5 times the tickness of the Minoura one. Problem solved.

heres the real answer of how to solve the bending plate. Put a couple of rubber gaskets between the mount and plate then use nylon lock nuts an crank it down. the gaskets need to be big so the get compressed and provide pressure on the plate and mount. i have about 400 miles on mine like this with no loosening yet.
