Can anyone recommend a nice, minimal saddle bag that will hold the bare essentials for fixing a clincher flat during a race. I’m just looking to carry a tube, CO2 cartridge and inflator head and maybe a couple of tire levers (and maybe a couple of bucks in case I need to pay a local yokel to haul me back to T2 if I get a second flat).
Some time ago I saw a guy on a ride who had something that looked like it really tucked up nicely between the rails and was out of the wind. I’m looking for the most aero solution I can find … though aero and seat bag would seem like an oxymoron.
Thanks, but nope. I’ve got a couple of those already. That’s a suitcase compared to some I’ve seen (but can’t seem to locate). Also, packs like that requiring a strap around the seatpost won’t work with a P3C seatpost.
I use this one in black - it is pretty small. My tire levers JUST fit with a single CO2, head and tube. Not much room to spare. You can cinch it up pretty tight with the velcro on the sides and trim off the excess.

that one is so small you it doesn’t even have a strap for the seat post. just the one for the seat rails. I use it and love it. I 've used that cannondale too but I like the pedro bag better. just because I don’t have a cannondale
I have this one or one just like it - maybe actually smaller - from performance. I can sqeeze in a tube, 2 levers, a co2, an inflation head, and a drop of water. That’s about it width and height wise. It’s actually long fore-aft so there’s some room in it. Fits well under an arione.
Jandd. you don’t have to use the seatpost strap if you don’t need it. The only thing I would recommend is also securing it with an old toe strap, the velcro straps have let go on mine in rainy rides. (maybe because mine is 5 years old as well??)
There are a couple made by european companies that are small little rectangles, they sit pretty much flush against the rails and are only about 1" in height, maybe 3" wide and 4" long. Basically a bit bigger than a deck of cards. screw on assembly that goes onto the rails and keys into the pack so no velcro around the post. That’s probably what you are looking for, they are damn tiny. I had one and just dug for it as i don’t use it as i always ride w 2 CO2, 2 tubes, tool, etc but couldn’t find it. The little bag will fit 1 tube (preferrably a thin tube, 1 co2 with small inflation head, and if you’re lucky a thin tire lever or two. anyways, can’t remember who makes it, sorry, but they do exist… i for some reason want to say mine was made by Tacx but I think i might be wrong there.
i’ve always just raced with the puncture kit in a zipp lock bag strapped down with those straps from toe clip pedals. as long as you don’t put heavy stuff in, it works fine.
I use that same seat bag on my Felt B2 with SMP saddle. I actually mount it sideways and it tucks up almost completely under the seat. Nothing even hangs down far enough to overlap with the seatpost.
The SMP saddle has a rail that goes horizontally across the back, bottom part of the seat. I take one of the velcro straps that’s supposed to go around the seat rails normally and put it through there. Then I take the strap that would normally go around the seatpost and put it around one of the saddle rails. And voila, the thing disappears.
If you have a “third” bottle cage behind the saddle, you can opt for a large water bottle to stuff everything including a pump.
Got to have a wide opening and a wide neck so no “bottleneck” problems.
