Mini Marathon - Indy

Have a good race tomorrow to everyone doing it! Kicking off the 500 festival with the largest half marathon in the United States with 40,000 participants where the course runs a large portion of the actual Indy 500 track. The convention was loaded with a lot of cool business, some tri stuff (not enough for me!) and alot of fit people ready for it. The banners are up down town and looks to be a good race tomorrow! Who’s all doing it?!

That’s what they call half marathons in Indiana. When I first moved there for work I was really confused with that terminology too. I guess they would refer to a 70.3 as a “mini-Ironman”.

IMO, the track is actually the most boring 2.25 miles of the course…the only thing that makes it more acceptable are the cheering crews.

I always loved in high school when I was training for 5ks and people always asked if I was running the mini and I told them no but that I had run 15-16miles the previous Saturday just on a training ride. I hate the fact that you can buy your way into Kona, but I hated having to justify long distance racing to people who saw fat assed hoosiers finish the half year after year…

The Indy Mini is the standard for half marathons! Look at it history; first winner was Frank Shorter with a 1:03! Very impressive.

We hope to begin our own tradition in Muncie with our own Mini Marathon on Oct. 29, 2011. Sponsored by IU Health/BMH.
