Midfoot/arch cleat Sidi's on ebay.....for anyone who has been looking

I just picked up the 43’s…this guy has one pair of 44’s left. Pre drilled to accept 2 hole systems. There is still some adjusting to get the cleats in right, but most of the hard to do work is done on these straight from Sidi!

Is there a reason you want midfoot cleats? Seems that the results I have read on the internet say that there is no material gain from moving the cleat that far back.

I would go into detail, but will be brief as I’m sure this will degenerate into a protractor debate amongst the dorks…how ‘it can’t possibly work’. Have been on them already for a year(Speedplay adapters…poor man’s midfoot) and I’m more powerful as verified by a ComputTrainer. Also, Achilles injury gone after 20 years of aggravating it with the ‘correct’ cleat placement from my fitter. Lastly, legs are much fresher after biking. Not for all, but definitely for me.

Also, many of us tend to suffer from calf cramps running off the bike. After moving my cleats back all the way my calves have not cramped on me despite all the other muscles doing so!

Despite our best attempts to add power to the pedal with the calf muscle the truth is that it’s pretty weak compared to the bigger muscles and the ankle tends to absorb energy that your upper legs are putting out by stretching the calf muscle. Calf must work hard just to minimize the amount of power lost to it…bad situation.

So wouldn’t it be better to put the cleat at the heel?

Maybe. I’d be willing to try it.

Actually I tried a poor man’s version of how far is too far with toe clips on my MTB. Once I got the spindle past my arch by about 2cm I noticed diminishing returns, probably to a negative effect. I cannot wait to get these Sidi’s set up!
