What is with this guy?
He’s not in the NFL because he’s not good enough, not because he’s gay.

Most people’s response to him:

True.

The headline is not a quote. The quotes are in the crappy story.
Headline is paraphrasing what he said.
It’s inflammatory. It’s clear from the story he didn’t want the distraction when he was trying to get in the NFL and because a couple of REPORTERS knew he had to come out early. It took his focus away.
Like Jerry Jones wasn’t salivating at the potential $ from the gay community ready to buy up every Sam jersey he could print. College skills quite often don’t automatically translate to the NFL. It’s a nice ‘why does the world hate me’ battle cry for the gay community though this story is like a booger that won’t flick off your finger it will hang around forever. Or at least until another openly gay player makes a roster…then it will start up again as soon as that player maybe isn’t named a starter.
Football is the gayest sport…

actually, the story isn’t half bad.he comes off as a little, well, cocky - but less so than your average nfl wide receiver.
the headline’s another matter. it makes him seem way whinier than any quote that’s in the story itself.
Assume he’s borderline (which is the impression I get from what I’ve read). It might be that being gay was enough to make teams not want him. I’m inclined to think that when a gay player comes along who isn’t borderline, there will be a team that takes them. And really it’s impossible to know one way or the other N=1 doesn’t give much evidence either way. If there were ten players like Sam, none of who made it on to a team, then it might look suspicious.
It might be that being gay was enough to make teams not want him.
It might also be that teams don’t want him because he’s borderline and then because of the media circus he invites around him and his constant whining about how the only reason he’s not “blank/in the NFL/starting/etc” is because he’s gay.

This may prevent someone else from not coming out regardless if he is right or not.
So? Who really cares who he likes to sleep with? Maybe he should have worries more about practicing instead of who he was banging. The league and teams bent over backwards( or forwards) and it still isn’t enough. Maybe he should do a STFU PSA for gay folks in the public eye based on his experience.
I should’ve phrased that more precisely. When I said they might not want him because he’s gay, I was thinking primarily of the spectacle surrounding it.

I don’t think I’ve had enough coffee yet to unravel that sentence beyond the first double-negative.

Haha I didn’t catch that. no idea what I meant to say. Just take out the first “not”
