Miami 70.3 (6)

Is a ghost town on sunday morning raining like hell, windy and cold for us
We live in FL because we like the sun not the rain
.

Unfortunately no where to park no one about and nothing to do
Other than a world class tri race that is !!

Probably you dont know downtown Miami. Where do you think that all 2500 parked their cars??
AA Area was open; Bayside was open, Hotels parking were open…if not 24hrs, 5am for sure was .

Race it today , the wind was RIDICULOUS all day! Kienle is not human, for real, the guy rode 2:01 with that freaking wind!!! !2:01! and of course he then ran a 1:13…

Great race, A+ to the organizers after last year fiasco.

Cheers!

Do you really went to Miami???

Yes, I raced last year and this year. WTC brought their “A” game. Everything was top notch as opposed to last year where just about everything was screwed up. Excellent packet pickup, bike dropoff, etc. The swim course was marked with a good amount of buoys, bike course was a much better layout, run course was a better layout. Tons of volunteers (thanks to all of them they worked hard today in very rainy, miserable conditions) and supplies on the bike and run. Overall very top notch this year. And WTC did all of this with some very bad conditions…a ton of rain and wind.

Bike was brutal with the wind was against you or at 90 degrees for all but 9 miles when you had a good tail wind. When it was at 90 degrees it was pushing me around and I’m 200lbs. The wind even made the run tough going over the bridges twice into the headwind. I thought the course was very tough today but it was a great race event.

impossible to find a better recap!

Hope you had a great race!

Cheers!

If that’s their A game I hope they brought the rest of the alphabet too. My girl registered months ago and had no packet for her yesterday. Her name was listed under one number but they had to give her a different one. Neither number had splits online. As of 8:15pm half of her age group still has no results listed.

Didn’t intend to sound so cynical. Apart from the timing frustrations, she did say she enjoyed the course and PRed it. Sounds a lot better than last year.

It looked like a lot of the AG swim times were a bit slow, was it pretty choppy?

I was on the 2nd wave of the M35-39 and there was some chop. I think I started a 8:24 so 1h15min after the pros. Lot of wind on the bike and it was a factor even on the run. More than happy with my time.

Top notch organisation!

I am not a local but my story is as follows…
I headed from south beach into miami from the 95 as the 1 was closed due to the race.
The 95 took me into the centre of town, every multi story car park I came across was closed, all the roads heading towards the race where closed to cars I did a couple of loops around town
looking for somewhere to park before I gave up.

There appeared to be absolutely no life in the middle of town (other than the race venue) the weather was poor and that may have contributed but I didnt see many cafe’s/restaurants at all either.

The 2 north legs (beginning and end of swim had a pretty good head current. One of the 2 long legs (heading back inland) was very exposed (wide open water) and the wind and current was pushing you to the south. Made it tough to hold a straight line along the buoys. I think the swim, bike and run were all tough today. Same course under different conditions could be much faster.

Looks like Mattynhad a pretty solid race.

Did anyone complete the run at this race wearing GPS? I did not and some of my mile splits were way high and some were ridiculously low especially the last 2.2 miles. The race had plenty of flexibility to get the distance right since the turnarounds seemed to be in spots that would have been extended, they had a couple silly loops around mile 6 and 12 also that just seemed like they were there to get the distance correct. The pro splits were about what you would expect so it doesn’t seem it would be short.

I do. I agree the splits were dead on at some markers and way off on others. I still came up with around 13.4 total distance which is about right for my gps.

It seemed normal to me. You were pushed pretty good on the long side of the swim by the current, fought it crossing over, and then swam against it. I did my normal 35 minute swim.
