Metrigear power meter, is everybody (still) as excited about it as I am?

I have been following their blog since I looked at their product at Interbike.

The potential of this seems really exciting, particularly the ability to be able to analyze pedalling mechanics, left right balance and the effects of fatigue. Can easily be moved bike to bike, use any wheel. If they can hit their target price this one should be a winner.

Kevin

just as excited as the first 5 times this was discussed
.

I know, they keep making more updates on the blog. I just changed the title to add the “still”

Haha i’m just in love with the price. The transferablility will be nice but 800 bucks with pedals would be awesome.

900 without a computer in speedplay pedals? not that excited. if they had them in look or shimano pedals maybe i could rationalize spending a bit more.

bang for your buck is still going to be a wired power tap with a wheel cover plus an aero front wheel.

I have used a powertap for 8 years, but being able to use clincher or tubular wheels, road or tri, racing or training, no wires and the fact that I run speedplays is what makes me hope that this new entry is more than vaporware. Garmin now has a ANT+ compatible computer for 249 bucks.
I can also use my custom painted disc and still have power

plus it’s a lot easier to swap pedals then cranks.
I’m actually interested in seeing if this actually hits the market. I could see myself dumping my PT stuff for it.

Completely agree. Hope they can keep the price point where the current estimate is at!

If they were in shimano pedals I’d be a lot more excited. Speedplays, not so much.

Why exactly do you think that Shimano or Look are better than Speedplay pedals?.

Do you think that Cervélo, Liquigas, BMC, Milram and others would risk putting all of its riders on Speedplays if they were not a top pedal?

There is a good reason Cancellara is still using Speedplay pedals even if Team Saxo bank is not sponsored by Speedplay.

Many top sprinters like Thor Hushovd are also on Speedplay.

You can’t please everyone, but I think that MetriGear made the right choice choosing Speedplay pedals.

Sergio

I’m quite interested in this power option but will be a late adopter as new products from a new company will likely need some revisions after release. Let’s hope it doesn’t turn in to another Ergomo mess.

Do professional cyclists run alongside their bike with the shoes in the pedals? That’s why I switched from Speedplay to Look. Shoes with Speedplay cleats tend to swivel off the Speedplay pedal in that instance. Otherwise they’re (Speedplay) fine.

I don’t understand the argument that swapping pedals is easier than swapping cranks. My SRAM S900s are 1 bolt, removing pedals is 2 bolts. And I can never remember which one is reverse threaded. Plus this way, I only need 2 bottom brackets, versus 2 entire cranksets (and bottom brackets) to swap the Metrigears.

The price sounds great though.

Because they have been brainwashed by the marketing claim that the platform area is reduced
.

what about all the dirt and grime?

I would buy it right now at $800

I can’t speak the the X Series pedals, but the Zeros stay cleated just fine. I don’t even do the rubber band thing, I just let them flop around and have never lost one.

I will never ever ever understand this…

I have done over 70 triathlons. 60 of them were in the X series pedals. Not once in running out of transition or running through transition have my shoes EVER been knocked off EVER. My shoes have hit the ground hard enough to pop off the chain but they have never actually came off the pedal. Since i switched to the Zero’s, which i like considerably more, guess what i still have never had a pedal come off. I have no clue what you guys are doing to make your shoes come off but obviously it isn’t what you are supposed to be doing.

Apparently I’m wrong then. But it’s happened to me, and that’s enough for me to switch.

well theres the chain to deal with also
and if you screw up with the crank you ruined your bike instead of just the crank arm
