Mesa Area Pools

Will be in Mesa Arizona for 7 days prior to heading to Henderson for LD Worlds. Plan to swim Seguaro lake but would like to know if there is a good pool in the area too. Staying out in eastern area of Mesa, off Ellsworth Rd, close to Apache Junction. Any public type pools that someone can recommend. thanks for the help.

This may be the least expensive public pool option, I believe the Mesa City outdoor pools close around Labor Day.

Regarding pools…

I’ve never been here (to swim), but Skyline High School has a 50meter pool and is fairly close to where you are. Local triathletes have used this pool, so I know it’s possible… I just don’t know the protocol, such as available hours, fees, etc.

Otherwise, find a Lifetime Fitness, LA Fitness or YMCA and pay a drop-in fee. That would probably be your best bet. Most of the public aquatic centers are in Tempe & Scottsdale.

Regarding open water…

Go to Canyon Lake. Go to the Boulder Recreation Site and swim there. Looking at the map, everything south of the Apache Trail/88 is closed to motorized boat traffic, so it’s perfect for swimming. The water pretty clean, low traffic, you’re swimming through a mountain canyon (hence the name). From the dock at the Boulder Rec site to the island to the south (across from that far south parking lot) is 500meters.

I live in East Mesa. If you’re looking for a pool, Skyline is the closest to where you are staying. The 50m lanes will probably not be open to full length but will be cross set up at 25 yard lanes. If that is fine there is a master program that swims in the morning from 5:45-7:00 and the water is always good. The fees are $8.00 per class. There are other times as well, just check out this site: https://www.teamunify.com/TabGeneric.jsp?_tabid_=20231&team=amsmac

See you there.

Mesa Aquatics runs the Skyline and Kino Pools. They have a masters program and age group programs. Both pools are world class outdoor pools. The US Masters nationals were held at Kino last spring. There are more workouts scheduled at Kino than Skyline, but both pools have lots of options for daily swimming. Here is the link to the practice schedule:

Paul and Laura Smith are the main coaches.

You can also find Mesa Aquatics Masters on facebook.

Thanks for the info. I will be very close to Skyline Pool so that will work. I will definately head to Sequaro or Canyon Lakes for open water. Have been to both in the past.

Mesa Masters has a good program at Skyline pool at Crismon and Southern. You can drop in on workouts for a week without joining. Here is their schedule.

If you are in the area drop into Iron Gear Sports and say hi, we are at Power and McDowell in Mesa.

Correction $10.00 per session but there should be lots of space in the pool for everyone who wants to come.
