Does anyone have any idea of water temps?
nothing yet but remember is it a low lake (man made lake) only 5-6 ft deep last yr it was on the brink of no wetsuit but the ref searched for colder water
this year I am going to guess the same plus hard to get the water temp on a lake on a golf course behind the hotel unless there is a local person to measure
.
The USA Triathlon referees cannot “search for colder water.” USAT has a strict procedure for measuring water temperature.
According to the promoter’s Facebook page (Start2Finish Events), water temp at 5 p.m. today was 80.5 degrees. The air temperature is supposed to get warmer throughout the week (about 80 today) and the current forecast for the weekend is sunny and approximately 90 degrees.
They have to “equally space” the 3 measurement points IIRC, but that’s pretty subjective on a course like that…the only thing they don’t have flexibility on is the depth they measure at–18". I guess if they were to take extra measurements at different places that could be construed as “searching.”
The “lake” is really more of a puddle. As someone else pointed out, it’s 5-6 feet deep. There isn’t much shelter from the wind other than the hotel (which is only on one side), so it can be a bit choppy. Last year it was stormy so it was pretty choppy. I do love a good point-to-point swim though. The water was warm as shit, and I think it was stupid that anyone got to wear a wetsuit. I did the practice swim and the race without…
