I have decided to do loads more TT’s this year with the RRP team and converted my aero bike for TT’s let me know what you think.
It’s not quite finished yet, still needs cables, aligning and some other set up tweaks (inc. air in the rear tyre), and the Di2 hasn’t arrived yet.
I guess most will say it’s not as quick as a proper TT frame set up and you’re right, but I love the bike and love this latest configuration and I hope you do to.
I know a guy who did that with a plain old S-works Venge who has killed some local sprint tris with it. He’s generally a much stronger rider than I am, but when we raced the same 10 mile TT late last year, I was on my Shiv and beat him by over a minute. A few extenuating circumstances. He was in an early race back after a broken wrist and his focus has never been TTs as mine has been. He does pretty darned well on that setup.
Have you considered going to TriRig Omega brakes on that bike? I have them on my Venge (still a dedicated roadie bike) and it really is nice and clean with them.
Doesn’t spoil the looks at all (I thought it significantly enhanced the look of mine) and if you won’t take 5 seconds over 25m, you’ve got a few things to learn about time trialing. You’ll win some and you’ll lose some by far less than 5 seconds if you do TTs for very long. But then, I guess if that mattered to you, then you’d just get a dedicated TT bike.
Probably not fair to say the Omega spoils the looks as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just didn’t personally like it, I won’t be losing any events by 5 seconds right now so it’s not so crucial. If I get into TT’s heavily and get much better then a dedicated TT bike would be the best solution at that point.
Some may say I’ve ruined the bike but I already had an S-Works SL4 which was my go to race bike and I didn’t find I used the Venge much (unless it was a flat fast course), we did a few TT’s late last year and enjoyed the suffering so I thought it would be great to have a proper use for this special bike, now I feel better it’s not waisted hanging up in the garage.
You mean the inner ring? If so I was requested it to be removed aling with the mech to save some aero and was told I would drop the chain relentlessly?
He’s referring to the accepted convention that, when you post photos of your bike, the chain must be in the big ring and on the smallest cog in back.
Well, yeah, obviously, because that’s the only way we ride, right?
.
Well managed to win my second ever 25m TT today with the McLaren bike and helmet, in fact first and second were both Venges.
That said it was unusual circumstances as we had up to 46 mph winds, savage conditions and proper dangerous! Happy given I’m not that fit or light right now, it was all about strength, speeds down to 15mph for miles into the wind, horrid.
