Wow. Hard to imagine how McDonalds is liable for 97% of the deaths there… I’m sure the Jury just wanted the deep pockets to pay the family of the victims, but still, wow.

The phrase “12 people too stupid to get out of jury duty” comes to mind.

he College Station Police Department was dispatched to the McDonald’s “to respond to criminal activity over 27 times in the year leading up to Ward’s death, mostly between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., after bars were closed,” according to court papers. Attorneys argued McDonald’s did not do enough to improve security at the restaurant.

Seems to me maybe the college Station police didn’t do enough to improve security at the restaurant*. *Isn’t preventing criminal activity the polices job?

But corporations are evil don’t you know! (typing this from my iMac, using my HP mouse, wearing my Nike shirt, listening to my iPhone…)

Haven’t the courts ruled the police are under no obligation to protect people?

My 2nd thought, after wondering why there is no mention of the people who actually beat the guy to death.

Does that city not have midnight basketball for those kids?

McDonald’s will need to post a No Fists Zone sign to stop the killings. #fistskill

Those guys didn’t have any money.

Juries hate to see injured people get nothing. McD’s is an easy target here. I really seriously doubt the plaintiffs see much or any of this $27 mil.

But corporations are evil don’t you know!//

Well since our supreme court has told us that corporations are people now, why shouldn’t this person be responsible like any other person would be? If the cops came to your house over 20 times for lawbreakers, probably at some point their gonna haul your ass in jail too…

Asked then answered?

My city would have pulled the liquor licenses of the nearby bars. Let’s face it, the bars were enabling the thugs to gather and get rowdy. Not McDonald’s. I take it these bars were cowboy bars, mechanical bulls and such?

So if a person attempts to break into your house every night and you call them every night and they catch the person every night, you at some point expect to be put in jail rather then protected? This is not a case of McDonalds throwing a drug party, they are running a business. When some people start causing trouble at that business you call the cops. That’s what the cops exist for.

By this juries ruling Mcdonalds is 97% liable for the damages while, the person(s) who beat the guy, the individual that drove while being beaten or distracted and the police that exist to “Protect and serve” share the remaining 3%.

The reality is that McDonalds was the easy target. The perpetrators, the driver and the beater(s) are either dead or have no money and the police are far more difficult to sue for “Lack of action”.

Last time I got called on for jury duty the case, as explained by the judge, was a woman suing the family of a cyclist that she killed while drink driving. The guy on the bike was also drunk. She was suing for (among other things) loss of income because of the 2 years she spent in jail.

I was in the first 12 called up to the jury box to be asked questions. The judge would ask “do you think you could be impartial?”, and first four idiots said, “well, yes. I’m open minded, enlightened.”

I answered, “are you kidding me? That woman should still be in jail!”

Well, she actually got a jury to hear the case…

Who are they?? And if i throw a party every nite, and bad guys come and break the law at my house during those parties, yes i expect that i would at some point get hauled in and held accountable.

Dude, you’re a true activist and hero

#twitterisgay,notlikehairdressergaybutprisonrapegay

Who are they??

McDonalds.

Don’t know about you but I’ve never seen McDonalds extend an invitation to anyone to do anything other then come to buy their food and eat it. If you have evidence that McDonalds invited these people to “Throw a party” in their parking lot or even evidence that asked them to loiter there in the first place I’d like to see it and then there might be a case. The fact of the matter is that clearly McDonalds did not want this going on as the police WHERE called 27 times.

I suppose you would rather McDonalds enforce the law then the police? Do you really want McDonalds hiring Blackwater to “Secure” their parking lot? No, McDonalds pays taxes and part of those taxes go for providing security against unwated happenings going on on your property. If I have a person doing something on my property I do not want happening I call the police. I do that as many times as I need to and as often as is necessary.

You’re pretty much placing the blame on the home owner for having his house broken into.

First of all McDonalds is a person, not a they. This person invites people into their place of business every nite and have a history of bad guys coming in and doing bad things, a long one it seems. If you as a person did the same thing with a party every nite, inviting people into your house and bad guys just happen to come and break the law, at some point you are going to get some sort of spanking…

Dont blame me, blame the SCOTUS for making corporations people. Cant have it both ways…

If you as a person did the same thing with a party every nite

First a business is open to the public, my house and a party is not. Second let’s say I did have an “Open to the public” party every night and every night something illegal happened. Assuming that this gathering in no way encourage such behavior and that people simply showed up and started breaking the law there would be absolutely no reason for me to be arrested.

What you’re saying is that if you had a Bible Study at your house every night that was open to the public and vitriolic atheist showed up every night and started a fight that you as the owner and Bible study organizer should be arrested. I can’t even imagine the police even saying anything and I would bet that at some point they would post a cruiser to protect the gathering.

McDonalds is not “Throwing a party”, they are operating a business. There business does not include hanging out in the parking lot and they do not encourage this. They sell food, you eat it there or you leave with it.

Dont blame me, blame the SCOTUS for making corporations people. Cant have it both ways.

I don’t blame you, I think you’re a bit confused as to what the police would do to a person when they are a victim of a crime like McDonalds is in this case.

I can’t really tell if you are being facetious, but at the slight chance that you aren’t, what exactly would you have expected McDonald’s to do other than call the police?..I was thinking gun turrets on the roof, maybe a moat with sharks and a drawbridge that can only be dropped by an employee inside.
