Max Trax long coarse duathlon with pics

The last few weeks my training has gone raipidly bad. My whole right leg has been inflammed. Luckily with with alot of Trigger Point, less intense workouts and pelvis strengthing I was able to do the race. I tested out my leg with a 10.5 mile TT with Helios in Ofallon IL. I havnt raced in a year and a half so this race was a fitness test for me. Goal times: Run 1-16-17 min, Bike 40-45 min, Run 2-16-17 min http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2788/4493734296_f7abd527d9_b.jpg
Run 1- Mass start, I was on the wrong side of the line, started out easy and was trapped in the group for the first 1/2 mile, finally was able to get out of the pack. The run was very wet, luckily I had the new K-Swiss racing flats on. They worked incredable. I was surprised by the run coarse being 1/2 off road. I slowed myself down on the run so I had some juice left for the second run. Came into transition in 16:43 (6:42 per mile). 22nd place.

Transition 1- Nothing special here, took off shoes, put helmet on and took off running. I set up my bike with bike shoes rubber banded to the bike. 0:31 sec

Bike- 2 lap bike coarse with nice rolling hills. I rode my new Cervelo P1. Was able to stay in the aero bars the whole time. The night before the race I droped by bars down to 16cm of drop. I avg 250 watts for the coarse. The rolling hills were very nice I enjoy the uphill and downhills. It was hard to push alot of watts with all the down hill. A few riders were jumping in front of me on the downhills then I passed them on the uphills. Came into transition in 42:24, 21.1 mph. Overall happy with the ride and the bike set up. It was a good test of the bike.

T2-0:55, need to get faster on this one. Not used to the k-swiss shoes yet.

A few of us came into transition at the same time so I wanted to get a good distance on them. Legs felt good coming into the first mile of the run. Avg. pace was between 1:37-1:42 per quarter mile. The last quarter mile(uphill) 7th place came past me, so I jumped behind them then pulled even with him. With 200m to go I past him and came into the finishing chute in 16:56 (6:47 per mile).
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4036/4493143511_36f33455e4.jpg Overall time: 1:17:29, 6th overall 3rd in age group. For having not trained well the few weeks prior I am excited about this race. I was having a hard time with people passing me in the last part of the race, when I was able to pass him and keep my place was the highlight of the race for me. I was unhappy about the way they had the results. It should be top 3 overall and then top 3 in age group, not both. Lessons learned, 1st if you are in a race that takes a hour or two; you probably do not need to wear compression socks to race! 2nd a coarse that is half off road and it just rained alot the day before, wearing newton trainers are probably not the best thing to run in. K-swiss racing flats were great in these conditions. Even though I ran through everything that came in my way, my feet didnt “feel” wet. They felt light and snappy. White isnt a good color though. I came in 6th overall. I am pretty excited about the finish. Havnt raced in a while so this was a good ending for me. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/4493782170_d81190cae0_b.jpg

nice report! are you going to Richmond?

BTW, where did you get the K-Swiss flats?

No nationals for me, Im def not fit enough for that right now. Im thinking nationals for next year. Had to take a month off during demobilization for deployment. I orderd them from trisports. K-swiss.com has them too. I wasnt to sure about them, but they are really nice. I have wide feet so its not easy to find shoes I like. I didnt even think about them at all.
