Gearing up for a new road bike. I already have a good race wheelset, but I’m looking for something strong, reasonably aero, and not to Fred. Anyone here have any opinions on with of these wheelsets? Durability, comfort, etc?
why not use your race wheelset for the road bike. anything else would be a compromise in terms of aerodynamics.
comfort comes from tires/tubes.
My race wheels are trispokes- I’d get kicked right the hell out of my group rides with them on.
unless youve got a bit of extra cash, i would just run some beater wheels with narrow tires and latex tubes.
planet x has 30mm rims for ~150$, but id only buy them if i didnt have wheels already.
Cosmic Elites are a nice way to go. Just a bit more than the Ksyrium Equipes. The cosmics will have a deeper rim than the ksyriums. Both use bladed spokes. Both use a lower spoke count. Ksyriums will be a few ounces heavier. Not a big difference in comfort. Kind of a push if you ask me. Yes the cosmics will look more aero, but you put them in a tunnel and both will have mediocre drag numbers.
I actually picked up a set of the Planet X wheels. They’re nice, but I’ve test ridden a friends Ksyriums, and they definitely have a little bit snappier ride. I suppose I don’t need to wheels (I do need a decent road bike, probably should be saving for that first).
