Mavic UST question

So I got hit by a car last year and totalled my basically brand new Mavic Ksyrium Elite Disc (clincher) front wheel (the rear was unharmed). I did have to purchase a new bike as well and got a Pinarello Gan Disk that came with Fulcrum 6 disc (clincher) wheels.

I enjoyed the Mavic wheels when I used them on my old bike and I do believe they are a modest upgrade over the Fulcrums. So I figured I would replace the front through the crash replacement program with Mavic and switch out the Fulcrums. My plan hit a snag when I realized they phased out the clincher option and only make a UST tubeless wheel now.

I don’t know what to do. I have never used tubless before. I have heard good things but I am used to clincher. I am also not sure how much of a pain it would be to do tubeless in the front and clincher in the rear. I just wonder if it is smarter to not spend the 290 dollars on the front tubeless and get some Flos 60s or something similar in a year or two for racing.

Thoughts?

Also, does anyone have any experience putting clinchers, specifically Conti GP 4000S II, on Mavic UST wheels.

You can run regular clinchers with tubes on UST wheels.

Doing tubeless is not that much of a pain. You do need to invest in a track pump or an Airshot tubeless inflator to seat the tire beads to the rim the first time you mount the tire. Plus, the Continental GP 5000 TL tire is a very fast tubeless tire that doesn’t require sealant to seal: https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/road-bike-reviews/continental-grand-prix-5000-tl-2018

With tubeless tires, you will be riding at much lower and more comfortable tire pressures, such as between 60 and 80 psi.

I love my tubless and have always used a regular pump to set the bead.

You are one of the few lucky ones.

They said you could run IRC Roadlites without sealant as well.
It took about 2oz before it would last weeks without much air loss.

When more people install 5000 TL’s, I’d like to know how many go without sealant.
