Mavic Cosmic Carbone (Pro and SLS)?

HI Everyone,

I’m looking for advice on buying a set of Mavic Wheels, I’ve read really good reviews on the SLS but now they came up with the 2016 Carbone Pro, what would you go for and why? Also, how do Mavics compare to Zipps in terms of sturdiness. I am planning on doing a few training rides with the carbone ones to get adjusted and not using anything new on race day. Doing IM Lake Placid on July 24th. Thoughts.

PS. Would you buy from a UK dealer like Merlin cycles? I’m a little unsure but they’re significantly cheaper than what I can find in the US.

Thanks.

Why/How did you narrow your search down to only Mavic wheels?

I use Merlin from time to time always with excellent results.

Buy the new flo wheels
.

I went from Mavic wheels to HED wheels and would do so again and again. The HED wheels are top notch and the Black series braking is great.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Three reasons:

  1. Good reviews on the carbone SLS. Also no need to change breaking pads. I’m looking for these as racing but also training wheels (not only racing)
  2. Price. Much less expensive than zipps.
  3. Sturdiness (based on reviews), goes back to reason 1 where i need something where I can both train and race.

Did I miss something really important and would you recommend something else based on the reasons above? Thanks for the reply BTW

If you want aero wheels, unless you want the CXR wheels, Mavic is pretty far down my list of modern aero wheels. I would get a set of HED Jet, Flo, or SwissSide wheels and call it good-enough.
