Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone didn’t like these wheels or did like them and why. I just bought them, and used the front today on a hilly ride, and the feel is much different than my crappy alex 298 rims. But, I just seemed to notice that the spokes are a little chatty. Does anybody else notice this? Do you like your set? I also notice the spokes come out of the carbon area on th side of the rim, not at the climax or peak of the carbon fold. Is that strange…I don’t recall seeing zipps, do that. Should I sell them adn get some reynolds or something relatively close in price, or are these going to get the job done? I do sprints, and olympics, and will be doing a half at the end of the season I hope.
Mine do not make any noise, I love them they are bombproof aero and fast, not the lightest out there, damn good hubs too.

Last Fall I was in a tangle on our local Tuesday Night World Championship ride. My front Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL got whacked good. I straightened out a bent spoke by hand and the thing looked surprisingly true. So I rode on and finished the ride.
Flash forward to the following weekend where I was doing the bike leg of a 1/2 IM triathlon relay. I had a new set of Zipp 808s. Had a wheel cover on the rear. I forgot the new front wheel. Left it at home. Luckily, the Mavic I’d had the tangle on was still in my truck ‘cuz I intended to run it by my LBS for a check out. I had to do the race on it. The prior year I did 2:17 and I didn’t know if it would be possible for me to beat that (seein’ as how I’m pretty old and not getting any younger). This time around, conditions were pretty windy. But I managed a 2:16. Friends who were racing on 808s said they had their hands full in the wind. I never had to give the wind a second thought. The wheel felt great on that ride.
Under normal circumstances, I’d never race without a disk or wheel cover on the rear. I think the Carbone Premium you’ve got will be fantastic on the front. Might there be something better? Depends on the conditions of the day. If something happens to be a bit better on a given day, it won’t be by much.
