can these tri-spoke carbon wheels be used with 9sp?
also, are there serious braking issues given lack of a dedicated braking surface?
thanks

I have a front, no braking problems just use teh right kind of pad for carbon brake surface.
As for the rear, NO sadly it’s a freewheel hub and (Correct me if I am wrong) they do not make a 9 speed freewheel hub only cassettes.
The set on ebay is a great deal even for just the front. The rear can be switched very easily to a front wheel with a hub change.
hey Tom…ask Superdave about 9ing a set of 3Gs…apparently it is rare but such an animal does exist…super easy to swap from track to 8sp freewheel to 9 cassette too. Wish they’d revive that wheel with a more modern weight to it.
(sigh) … i love those wheels (if not the yellow decals), and i like the “rare” factor, but …
ahh … i’m rehabbing my house … i’m not sure i can take on another do it yourself project … i guess i’ll just wait to find something a little more tailor made for my needs …
thanks for the replies.
I know guys who still use those. God are they heavy…
Yes, I used to have a version with the modular hub, you could remove the hub and interchange a front, rear freewheel, rear track, or rear cassette (HG) into it. With the HG freehub you could use Shimano 9 speed.
Euro Asia Imports is a bicycle wholesale company that has had service parts for my old Mavic wheels in the past. I think there were model years of the 3G that were not compatible with the interchangeable hub, but I’d have to dig out my 1989-1993 Mavic dealer info to be sure.
Corima brake pads work adequately for that wheel.
