Maternity cycling shorts

Hi folks,

My wife is 4 months pregnant with our first child (wohoo!!). Anyway, she’s an avid cyclist and would like to continue to ride on the trainer and in spin classes until… well if she has her way, until the baby decides to make a grand entrance. Her normal shorts are probably not going to be able to handle the ever-expanding belly, so does anyone have any experience with maternity cycling shorts? I know there are a few out there…seems like “Terry” makes the go-to short for these ladies.

I also emailed De-soto asking if they’ve ever made a 400 mile bib for women with “expanding belly pannels”… figured what the heck, I’ll ask.

Thanks,
Gord

She could get a pair of low-rise shorts and have them sit under her belly.

If you haven’t already, do buy your wife a pair of Terry maternity shorts. If she cycles a lot, buy her two. They were the best investment I made during pregnancy. The lousy exchange rate (from Australia) during my first pregnancy saw me putting up with low-rise cycle shorts. Then I treated myself to Terry shorts in my second pregnancy. Well, those big gussets might not look pretty but they are SOOOO comfortable. In my third pregnancy now and still loving my cycling shorts. BTW, I cycled until the day before I gave birth, ten days overdue, last pregnancy. I’m more of a recreational cyclist rather than a go-hard cyclist but I do love my bike. All the best to your wife.

Thanks for the note.

I actually contacted the folks at Desoto and they took care of us in getting some shorts that will work. We were debating the Terry brand ones too and I’ll pick up a set should Michelle like.

Cheers,
Gord
