Managing FTP's for different bikes in TrainingPeaks

I suspect I’m not unique in this, but my FTP on the tri bike is ~12-15W lower than on my road bike. The problem is, I switch back and forth between the two bikes during the week, and invariably forget to change my FTP in TP before uploading a WO, so the TSS it calculates is always wrong. To compound problems, I don’t see how to retroactively apply an updated FTP to a WO I’ve already uploaded. How do you manage different FTP for different bikes in TP?

Maybe average the two and make that your FTP? It’ll be about 5 watts off per ride which is a few TSS points. What bike do you ride most?

Re: retroactively changing your ftp…you can do that by changing your ftp/zones in settings, then open the desired workout, click the files button, and then click the recalculate button.

Hello el gato and All,

While not on point to your question … some recent information about the nature and accuracy of FTP and calculated FTP.

How you determine your FTP may make a difference.

Is the difference due to the different power meter or to the different positions?

I couldn’t do erg efforts on my TT bike on the aero bars.

May be that you give up a little power for the aero position.

May be a hint to do more work in the time trial position.

I just use one FTP since 10-15 watts is insignificant compared to my FTP of 409 watts

Seriously, just pick one and go with it, you’re looking at 13 point difference for 56 miles going from 300 to 315 watts.

I used to worry about this, I dont anymore…also my road and TT position power have become more and more similar over the years. The small difference in TSS I dont think are sig over the long haul. Stop worrying and just ride…If you must simply lower your TSS post ride after riding your road bike or vice versa with the TT bike.

Set up FTP and zones for one bike as MTB. Training Peaks has the option to have two bike zones - “Bike” and “MTB”
