So I tried Carbo Pro on a long bike and ended up with it all over my shoes. Awful gastric distress after a couple of hours. Move clock forward about six months … saw it in the pantry, tried it again on another long bike … same result. Nothing is more miserable than barfing on the side of a trail in the middle of nowhere, USA. Anyone heard of an allergy to maltodextrin? If so, that rules out InfiniT too, no? Just tryin to get a nutrition plan together for IMAZ 11/08 … considering Clif shot blox (rice syrup).
Thanks for any info.
1 scoop in each of 2 20-oz bottles. also put in 1 sm scoop of gatorade powder in with the Carbo Pro in each bottle. drank one bottle per hour. refilled with water at the turnaround but didn’t drink any of it. it was a muggy florida day low 80s. (about two weeks ago) really sick to my stomach at the end of 2 hours. also had 3 pretzel nuggets to eat, about 1 oz maybe. that’s it.
infinit can use different sources for carbs.

yeah, i’ve heard such great things about InfiniT from a lot of people. I’d love to give it a shot. But I don’t want to buy it ($$$) if the maltodextrin’s causing the gastric issue. I had heard from a coach somewhere that some people just can’t digest maltodextrins properly. But you’re saying that InfiniT can be made from another source of sugar?
From the infinit site :
The short distance side of the slider has a higher percentage of faster burning Dextrose for quick energy. The long distance side of the slider uses primarily Maltodextrine for its endurance qualities. Adjusting the slider will change the percentage of dextrose to maltodextrine.
Call up the owner and ask him. He will send you something and if it doesn’t work for you he will make you something different. it is too expensive for me to use usually but I was too cheap and only used it for one sim and my ironman. It actually allowed me to not get dehydrated which was a first in three years for me but i overhydrated! Need to practice with that before Roth.

I think infinit has a return or customer satisfaction policy, as well.
If I were to hazard a guess here i would suggest the mix of gatorade and carbo pro was the problem. Hammer suggests not mixing their product with any simple sugars - i didn;t heed this advice at IMC 2005 (by quaffing gatorade at the aid stations) and had similar GI probs as you mentioned. Try mixing carbo pro only with water and/or nuuns or give infinit a try.
BTW> I have used carbo pro and infinit for two subsequent IM races - I used both in super concentrate form (18 scoops per 20 oz bottle) - totalled about 1800-2400cals in a bottle. No problems.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll give it a try. Am trying the nuun stuff tomorrow at Disney with straight water & Clif shots just to see how it sits. But I’ll call the InfiniT owner and see what he suggests. At this point, the IM proposition has gotten so expensive than another hundred bucks is kinda a drop in the bucket. I want to do whatever will see me through the race, period.
