Mallorca camp

What are the best hotels/regions to stay for a self guided training camp? Need access to a pool. Thanks!

I love the north east of Mallorca, Port d’Alcudia or Port de Pollenca. Search for Hoposa Villaconcha which has a nice 25m pool. You can easily find flat or hilly training routes in the area.

i’d second pollenca - nice place, great riding more or less out the door. i’ll admit i was mostly just cycling and running though, no swimming.

I went to Mallorca in 2019 for the GCN event that they did there. We stayed in Alcudia at the Zafiro Palace Hotel. It was extremely nice and absolutely catered to cyclists and triathletes. I believe that they also had a tri camp going on when we were there. Rooms were great, there is an underground bike garage with onsite mechanic and shop as well. Would certainly go there again.

For a rest day (or if you decide you don’t need a pool), I’d recommend going to Pollenca itself. It’s a little bit inland and has a number of good restaurants/sights. It’s also less busy than the Port towns and there are some awesome rentals there (we stayed in RV12 - there’s a pool that’s too small for laps, but great for a post ride soak).

i stayed at this hotel and can strongly recommend it. perfect location for all the good tours, 25 m pool, nice gym, close to the beach. And the hotel is very good as well.

Indeed, this is an awesome spot to stay. I can’t count how many times over the last decade I’ve stayed there by myself as well as for various cycling media events, it’s great for triathletes/cyclists. Outdoor 25m pool (also an indoor lap one too, but I’ve never had to use it). There’s a bike shop on site in case you forget anything, a maintence set of tools in the garage (plus the bike shop tools). And you can easily arrange rental bikes there if you’re coming from far away (legit carbon bikes and all).

Routes wise, all of the majors are at your doorstep, so it’s perfect for cycling and good for running. For openwater swimming, you can technically swim across the street, but it’s a bit rocky. However, just a kilometer or two away is the town, and the sandy beaches there are great for OWS.

Food-wise, it’s hard to beat the packages they offer if your timing is right. Quality of the food isn’t super awesome, but it’s calories. Else, town has plenty of good options. Rooms are good sized, but I’d recommend getting a 2nd floor balcony one, since it means you can leave your bike or bike bag outside and save in-room space.

Finally, if you’ve got kids/family, there’s a gazillion things they can do on-resort.

Valentin Playa de Muro near Can Picafort, stayed there 2 times in a row. Nice spot, 25m pool included.

Ha, your glowing review put a smile on my face because I’ll be staying at the PortBlue 25th March to 1st April, 2023!

Anybody I’ve had a keyboard fight with or who wants to thank me for shitposting here, please drop in. First drink on me.

With that, thanks for writing

Stayed at the same Hotel a few years ago when we were working for a Client. They have a 25m pool right on the property and a Total Bike Service with mid to high-end bike rentals available at the hotel. May not be in everyone’s budget as it is listed as 4Star I think. However, there seemed to be all manner of other hotels near-by catering to cyclists at various price-points.

Riding from there is amazing. Some of the more famous routes make for great rides. However, we found the little farm-lanes that linked up some smaller villages super interesting and we would rarely if ever see other riders or cars ( just occasionally a farmer herding sheep!!), compared to say riding out to Cap de Formenter, which feels like a a Gran Fondo all the way out and back in peak season!

Reviving this thread. Headed to the Island in early Sept and have a house in Andratx. Anyone have any feedback on running around or riding from that area? I take it its all relatively straightforward. Will be renting a bike.

Thanks!
