So I have a ‘mallet finger’ from a crash, and there seems to be a variety of splinting options, just wondering if anyone has gone through this and has any advice on splint type and such.
Thanks!

Mallet fingers are common problem, that can take many weeks to heal properly. Regardless of the type of splint used, it’s imperative that your finger stays in extension at all times. Otherwise the extensor tendon tear will not heal. Each time your finger is allowed to “drop” prior to healing is essentially a new tear. Since you will be riding and sweating, I would recommend that your MD send you to a Hand therapist that can fit you with a custom splint. Using the classic splint and tape on top of the finger can hurt the thin skin that covers the tendon and DIP joint. When it’s all healed, your finger will be stiff, and take time to regain mobility. If you do nothing it will remain curled at the distal finger joint.
