Apparently, it’s really funny because his setup sucks. No shoe cover, no aero helmet, no disc, cables are exposed, etc.
Then you look at the results, and the dude goes 1.01.55 for 46.4km in the rain, on a technical course. So, aside from
Carl S. here, bjorn and a couple others, who has ever gone that fast?
Its just ST standard MO. Look at that old dude they let into the tour with the idiotic TT position. If we weren’t here to make fun how would they know how to improve.
I wouldn’t make fun of him. Obviously he does have a heck of a powerplant.
And while maybe he hasn’t spent years refining every tiny detail of his set up, he is on one of the fastest frames around. And the wheels aren’t too shabby either.
There is a thread here talking about how non aero the set up is. Yes, the frame is aero, but everything else (aside from position since we can’t really judge that)
is not aero at all. The thread was making fun of him somewhat…I find it funny given that on this forum, with a perfect full aero setup, there are maybe 5 guys
able to go that fast.

Bjorn
You (maybe)
Christopher Martin (maybe)
Doug Clark (maybe)
Carl Spackler (I can never remember his real name)
Kevin Metcalfe
Jordan Rapp
Chris Boardman (probably even today)
psycholist
jeffp
Luther White
So, about five is probably correct, but probably a few more.
I was hoping the OP was framed at least somewhat tongue-in-cheek, to draw attention to the curiosity of these men competing who get no media coverage. I am fascinated by them, if only by extension of being so inspired by Tadese’s WR Lisbon run. and his background in cycling. As far as ST threads go I thought the banter was pretty low-key, but if the intention was really to make fun of him that’s too bad.

Wait wait wait wait. So you’re trying to tell me, that the best way for me to get faster on the bike is to actually work harder, get stronger, and suffer more? It’s NOT to go spend every pretty penny I own on the most aero nothingness available out there? And then THIS GUY comes along and proves that point???
Crucify him! Make fun of him! His method of being faster is not the Slowtwitch way!

Actually if we put a power meter on his bike you’ll see that he was likely putting out more watts than many of the 10-20 places above him.
If he already trained as hard as he could, why not go 10 places better?
I doubt most of the people on that list (myself included) other than Bjorn and Boardman, could average 28+mph at sea level on a very technical course in the rain.
That was my thought too. I was looking at the course and thinking, wait a second, rain, not out and back, turns and stuff, no way I’ll go 28.8mph on that.
