And having been in China a few times, I never realized the danger I was in while out on a few runs.

I go there for work sporadically. Will be much less cavalier about walking near traffic in future. Last time I was in Beijing, I saw a pack of rich teenagers cruising around Tiananmen Square on high-end road bikes, I remember thinking that if I lived in Beijing, I would give up the road biking hobby, traffic is simply insane (not to mention the lovely air quality).

Let’s not get carried away with comments like this and keep the discussion somewhat civil. Although I find behaviors described in the article appalling at best, there is no reason to draw a conclusion about a swath of humanity based on this. Along the same lines - there are lots of folks upset with how drivers behave on American roads, yet no-one concludes that Americans should not be trusted as a whole based on that.
