My wife recently had a bike fitting on her 2014 P3 and they changed her stem so I had to get a longer cable for the front brake. I’m having some issues with the bleeding. I followed the instructions on Magura’s site(video for RT8). I removed the brake from the front fork so I can have it above the brake lever to allow for a good bleed with no air bubbles remaining. I finished and it was working great, or so I thought. I waited a few hours and tried it again, now it’s soft so they will not work.
I see no leaking, and I ran the fluid through to make sure there was no air and tapped the brakes while I did it, by the time the last 1/2 fluid that went through it was bubble free.
I’ve bleed numerous cars in my life that were never this difficult. I’m hoping I’m maybe missing something simple? Any thoughts?
I must have read into that, I guess you only need to tilt it. And yes, I agree, extremely simple… it took minutes. I will try that again tonight. I had tried it previously with the caliper still mounted, not like it took any work to remove a caliper. Either way same result, soft brakes after a couple hours.
Didn’t watch the video, but I’m assuming they make the following notes:
make sure to get the air out of the fluid. Put your finger on the tip of the syringe/plunger thing and pull to make a vacuum. This gets a lot of residual air out you can’t even see.2) tap the caliper and brake as you bleed to release and air bubble that form during bleeding.
This article was posted a while ago and was a good walk through.

Umm, if you are trying to get air out of the lines and the bleed port is on the lever, you want the lever ABOVE the caliper. Bubbles of air are going to float up, not down.
Thanks all, I’m going to try it again tonight with the caliper below as well and double check my work. I did read through that link and follow the brake line install when installing and I have yet to see any leaks so maybe I’m just screwing up a very simple process by complicating it. Thanks for taking the time to respond and I appreciate the bluntness. Cheers.
I did the same thing last night except only worried about tilting the lever. I think it’s all good. Sorry to overcomplicate and waste peoples time but I appreciate the help. She got out on her first ride(on the P3) last night and I checked this morning, still working great.

No problem, that is what this forum is for. You can ask a question and get smart ass responses that are actually valuable.
