So I like port. Have a couple of vintage bottles I’m saving for something and then drinking port.
Bought a bottle of Madeira (25 bucks don’t know if that is low medium or high range) at Christmas since the from scratch authentic trifle called for wetting the cake with it. Poured a glass after dinner since it was open and I thought I’d give it a go. Port may have been replaced because damn I enjoyed it. Less viscous/syrupy tasted great a little lighter.
Never have liked port (too sweet), and have only had Madeira once or twice. They’re not at the level of ouzo in terms of alcohol I’d be fine never drinking again, but they’re close.
So I guess the answer to your question is no.
But tomorrow for Burns Night I will be opening a bottle of Talisker I got 18 months ago that’s only available at the distillery. Looking forward to it.
Yep. Madeira has largely replaced port for me. I actually find it somewhat more viscous than port. 20 canada dollars at the LCBO. Maybe thats the cheaper stuff but it is all they have.

Dude ouzo is a distilled spirit and port and Madeira are fortified wines. That’s like complaining that your bicycle can’t go as fast as your motorcycle

Really? Either you drink thin port or thick Madeira
Does that mean you can only buy one kind because that’s all the store carries? Will they order stuff?

Dude, I’m aware. The question wasn’t about what kind of booze do you prefer for getting messed up quickly (or if it was, you need to ask the question more clearly).
I don’t like port or Madeira or ouzo. Because they all share the same quality of tasting bad to me.

Got confused because you talked about alcohol and I thought you liked ouzo from your post (I’ll drink it after a Greek dinner but it’s not in my home bar… now pastis on the other hand)
Not really, but I do like Scotch finished in Madeira (or Port) casks.
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is definitely one of my faves.
I’ve come to accept that most ports are a little too sweet, but I had one early on that was finished in bourbon casks which might be one of the best dranks I’ve ever had; got me trying to find another port like ever since, it but alas that was apparently some blend of unicorn juice.
