oh shit, macca on a shiv?
when was the last time a top male ironman was on one of the uberbikes?
this spells trouble for everyone else!
=)
Shouldda call that bike the Shiz.
Very cool ride, but can someone explain motorpacing as practice for an IM to me? Seems pretty conterproductive.
I believe I finally figured that out, after a couple coaches kept going on about it in typical zeen master obfuscating fashion.
its motivation
humans will kill themselves to keep up with something more so than they will with say, a powermeter’s indicator.
Shouldda call that bike the Shiz.

I was going to ask the very same question but then… I read this thing next to the video apparently written by the person who posted the video.
With motor-pacing you can increase your power output without fatally hurting your muscles before a hard race like the Ironman world championship on Hawaii.
Obvs, fatally hurting your muscles is a bad thing, duh!
that explanation does not make sense though =)

I can’t thing of any real reason unless its inhaling the motorcycle exhaust.
After watching this motor-pacing video and the one of Crowie, one major thing sticks out to me. It seems that they try and ride in the wind as much as possible and then get back in the draft. I guess it’s good to ride this fast and then try and do it without the draft. I don’t know. It could be the camera angle as well. It just seems like a fun way to perform VO2 intervals, with the added benefit to go really fast. That’s my take.
I could be totally off base as well.
The dweeb on the scooter needs to adjust his helmet.
Oh, and Macca’s seat is too high.
Unless they’re not headed directly into the wind. If the wind was coming at an angle, they’d be getting more of a draft slightly off to one side. That doesn’t explain why they seem to move around back there though. I would think that going that fast, you’d feel a pretty good force when you got out of the draft!
Watched Bernard Hinault train like that back in Boulder, during the Red Zinger Classic out in Niwot during the late 70’s, this is the way to train, he was an animal, I am not sure if he won that stage after the training, but it was unbelievable to watch the speed he was pedaling at, we tried it afterwards for may 5 miles on Baseline Road and out by Gunbarrel, still hard to do if you are not in shape.
Macca will destroy Kona this year, !!!
x2. The “dweeb” on the scooter needs a real helmet!
What is he running for gears that he is able to pedal so slowly at that speed? (and be shifting gears as well)
Or perhaps he really isn’t going the speed that they suggest in the video…
that “Dweeb” on the scooter is Timothy Marr, and he was top 15 last year (1st Hawaii race ever in his 1st year of doing Ironmans)
he will smoke most people
.
We have once every two months a training with a scooter. It’s very challenging and exhausting. We usually do it with a group of 3 or 4 and the goal is to catch and keep the wheel of the scooter. I always saw pro cyclists training that way (I’m from Belgium and it’s really common). Never saw it in velodrome training with the little moto ?
This is Steher race (moto+bike)

Or maybe Macca prepares for the next “Sixdays Race” in Berlin ?!?!

Teams were used to do it in the past on the road.
Well yeah, it must be easy to get a top placing in Kona when you ride a scooter for the bike portion. He probably would have went top 10 if he wore an aero helmet.
He still looks like a dweeb with the helmet worn the way it is
i wonder if macca is going to stick with that helmet this year.

This is on my list of the most asinine posts I’ve ever seen on ST.
Friggin looser…

per his facebook page, 90km in 90mins. 60kph/37.3mph for an hour and a half. monstrous!
cheers!

Well I guess I am a looser (if you are going to insult, at least spell it right). I was only joking, I should have typed it in pink font!
