I’m going to try and be a better record keeper and have recently purchased a giant Garmin watch that I can use fun running and recording power off my bike via ant.
I’m kind of underwhelmed by the garmin connect either online or on the workstation. I’d like it to give me total by sport for each week. I don’t need anything fancy, just want to keep track of my training volume.
i like the golden cheetah, will it read the garmin watch ok? I want it to see the world as running and biking, it will be ok with that? I’m just trying to keep better track of my running miles to avoid overdoing it mostly, for the bike I like the tools that software has just fine, I’m not real picky.
Strava will keep track of both running and bike mileage with data breakdowns for each. That is for the premium version which unfortunately has a subscription fee. I am not sure how much information is tracked with the free version.
No. Golden Cheetah is just for cycling power analysis. If you are serious about training with power you should do some reading about it.
For what you are trying to do, a free TrainingPeaks.com account might be your best bet. Assuming you need more than the Garmn Connect reporting feature.
I like different parts of Garmin Connect, Strava, and TrainingPeaks. I don’t use GoldenCheetah but have heard it’s good as well. In the end, if you figure out what pieces of information are valuable to you, you can pretty quickly figure out what the minimum group of apps/sites to use is that supports that group of data.
well, i was hoping to get something that just tallied up all my bike and run miles and gave me a total. I don’t care about the last 7 days, i just want a week at a time without having to do third grade math. For the power crap, any of them are fine as I usually use the interval function on the meter. I do like the golden cheetah feature to pick out the best intervals of a certain time length, that’s handy as is the CP, i like that a lot.
Garmin connect is sort of stupid the way it just adds all the miles together for biking and running in the calendar view.
I have been using RubiTrack for the past three years and really like it. I think it fits the bill for what you are looking for. It offers a lot of different ways to view, organize and label all your workouts. You can also use the workout summary to view your totals (distance, times, number of activities, etc) for each week, month or year. Lots of nice features, it is really easy to use, and is visually appealing as well. I don’t use power so I cant speak to that at all. I think they let you demo it for a while before you purchase it.
Can anyone give me some help with setting up my Garmin Connect. I just got a 910XT and downloaded the Communicator Plugin and the Ant Agent, but when I try to install the ANT Agent I get a message saying “Installation cannot proceed, all requirements are not met.” I have a Mac desktop and have no idea what the issue is. I definitely downloaded the Mac version. Any computer folks out there who can help would be appreciated.

I had to hang on the phone for over an hour with Garmin to get mine working, but once it was setup it has been great.
I have tried a few, Training Peaks, Garmin Connect and a couple of others. One that is slightly less in depth than Training Peaks, not as pretty as Garmnin Connect but way better at keeping activity totals (and equipment totals too) is Ascent by Montebello. http://www.montebellosoftware.com
It’s what I used for the first few years before moving to Training Peaks. It gives very easy comparisons by year, month, week etc. Good enough that despite moving away for other data I still keep it bang up to date so I have decent total figures. If you just want to keep track of volume it’s excellent … and it does other stuff too (map, HR graphs, power graphs, laps etc etc)
Here is an example. i opened up some of the activities so you can see how it shows Year, Month Week and Day etc. Hope that helps.
I might be biased but TrainingPeaks.com works great, it’s free for the most part (unless you want advanced metrics and analytics) and you never have to worry about losing the data, or moving from one computer to the next.
Try it, if you like it and want to try the Premium features DM me and I can set you up with 2 weeks of free Premium.
