I was at the doctor’s office the other day getting a physical. I got an EKG and the doctor did a double take. When he scaled it off, he found that my heart rate was 33 bpm. Has anyone ever measured a heart rate this low? How low can it go before it becomes dangerous?
Before I get any clever responses… YES, the point of this post is to brag. I am bragging about my low heart rate. Thank you.
My normal resting HR since I first began testing it at 19 years old, has been about 29. I read somewhere that Miguel Indurian had a resting pulse of 28. We both have pacemakers now, because we both had recorded rates of “0” for a period of time.(mine was up to 20 seconds) Don’t think you can get much lower than that. Do I win the game???
Yes, I’m talking about a consistent rate for an extended period of time. 0 doesn’t count. 11 doesn’t count. 28 and 29 sound like realistic numbers. Every doctor I’ve gone to kind of freaks out about that low of a heart rate.
Arthur Ashe, the tennis player for those living in a shell or are too young to remember him, had a resting HR at about 18. AND, yes, he died of a heart attack.
My HR was 00 on my Polar for a little while today.
I dunno why it wasn’t registering, since the little heart icon was blinking and whatnot. I checked my pulse and found it was still there, so I guess that for at least a little while the Polar was somewhat less than “EKG accuracy” :-p
Not this old thing again. Let’s pull out the ruler.
FWIW, my resting HR is high 50s, low 60s, at best. And yes, I’m a shit athlete. What we need a thread where people brag about the lowest possible combined HR and stroke per lap count.
Those people (seems like it’s mostly kids) who fall through the ice, and are submerged for several minutes (and are subsequently revived)… I bet they have pretty low HRs

Yes Monty you win…
I didn’t know Indurain had a pacemaker.
I might be a candidate for the highest heartrate, I have supra ventricular tachycardia so my HR sometimes goes to around 300 (ish) for short periods of time, I can’t give an exact figure because most HRMs top out at 240, so the only time I found out was when I was on an ECG/treadmill setup a few years ago. I havent used a HRM since (too scary).
I recorded also à 29 (the whole season between 33 and 37 and after a break of one month without aerobic activities it is more auround 42.
A friend of mine which pratice “apnée” (I don’t know t english word for being in the water without breathing) can slow is HR around 23 when he does not move (for duration record) and even less with the pressure when he dives.
I have a friend that knows this doctor who went to a convention that included a doctor that worked in a hospital with a cancer patient who’s brother’s heart pumped backwards.

If this is inappropriate curiosity, just ignore:
you’ve got a pacemaker? how come?
