What I like about doing triathlons is the fact that everybody cheers and supports everybody on during the event regardless of ability. At least that has been my experience. I’ve seen guys on old 12 speeds with toe clips and running shoes and downtube shifters kick the asses of guys with dimpled disc wheels and carbon everything which reinforces the belief that it is not the gear that succeeds, but the competitor. This observation seems to reinforce the concept in most participants minds that everybody has just as much right to race a triathlon as the next guy even if “race” for one person might mean dead slow to another. As a result, everyone gets equal support and leaves with a satisfied sense of physical accomplishment. This is why I like triathlon. The athletic snobbery of so many other sports seems to be nonexistent. Hell, a bunch of triathletes on this forum even pitched in to help a disabled cyclist they had never met who ran into some unfortunate circumstances during a bike trek. Pretty feel good stuff.
Imagine my disgust at the recent name-calling and ridicule towards the Tri-Newbies forum members exhibited by members of this forum. If there is one thing that makes me retch it is athletic snobbery. Every last one of you out there mocking the “newbie” questions of the TNO group started from scratch and had the same questions. So the next time you take time out from crunching wattage numbers and lactate threshold percentages to poke fun at someone just starting out, remember that once you were there too. This sport will die if we allow the experienced to shun and ridicule the new participants.Lighten up and help the inexperienced.
That’s my rant.
(For the record, the pervs and adulterers had it coming)
Flame away.
I haven’t read whatever you are talking about but I would say that STers go out of the way to answer legitmate questions regardless if they are newbie questions or super technical.
They ain’t like us.
Check out the thread "Is Trinewbies.com dead?’
.
What? Trinewbies.com is dead?
~Matt
like i said…they’re gonna get all TNO on us.
LOL!
ah, shit. relax. it’s a discussion forum.
(For the record, the pervs and adulterers had it coming)
Hey man - I was with you all the way 'till the parenthetical statement. What does that mean?
It would make my day if I saw someone on an old 12 speed kicking some posers ass (as long as it was not this poser).
I think you’re taking most of it too seriously. Just a little good-natured ribbing. I guess if you’re the one getting ribbed, it’s not so much fun. But TNO has its share of Slowtwitch threads talking about the elitest jerks over here. It goes both ways.
Someone is getting all Tits Nude and Orgasmic on us?
don’t remember in primary school when the kids from the treehouse down the street would come and raid your clubhouse and you would call them all names and throw stuff at them and then someone gets hit by a rock and goes home crying and your mom comes out and tells you all to play nice. it’s kinda like that.
BTW – it’s back up.
Exlposeive Action, Funny and Entertaining, That fricken sums it up. Good job. Where are the pervs and adulterers in that title. You must have fricken clicked on a booby voyeur site instead of nooby. You fricken freak boy.
Even when I’m trying to be all serious like, one of you guys still makes me laugh…Ok , now I’m all serious like again.
Sgardner,
I agree that triathlon offers all those things. This is my first season, and I’m loving it. I post regularly on BeginnerTriathlete.com and love that site. Lots of newbies of course and the questions and posts run the gamut. I’ve learned alot on there. I found out about this forum back in June and started coming here and discovered that people on here seem to have alot more history and knowledge about triathlon, so I’m soaking up all the info like a sponge! Alot of it is way above my head still (I don’t even own a HRM), but ANOTHER reason i love this site is the occasional lack of political correctness and lack of censorship. I like that, and I come here knowing that sometimes if you post something that is ripe for flaming, you will get flamed. If you show weakness, you might get pounced upon. That is kinda funny to me. So, in summary, I’d say that this forum is for the thick-skinned among us, but in general, it’s all in fun.
uh…did you notice that quite a few of the people doing the name calling and ridiucle are tno’ers?
k
TNO people seem to have large chip on their shoulders. I think that you missed the point with many comments that were tongue-in-cheek. Also, how many “Noobies” on that forum are actual newbies? You lot lack ambition. Aside from all of that, the Noobies really are a bunch of pussies. Go back and hold hands and sing Kumbaya together.
Thank God TNO is back up. It was fun today though, re-living all those old memories. See you guys next time. I will have to keep lurking over there now, as I used up all my smart remarks today. I need some more ammo for next time.
i agree it was fun. i’m tired from being a smart ass all day though. i’ll have to get some new material together for next time.
keep us posted on the ankle. did you get an appt to see matt?
kc
I played phone tag with them a couple of times today. I’ll call tomorrow. I have been icing like crazy. It’s geting better but still swollen. All the swelling is on top of muy foot, so kind of weird. I have sprained this ankle many times, so I hope this isn’t the start of something new.
