Lost ironman medal

My son completed the Cozumel Ironman. I took his medal in to frame and now the framing company is telling me that they do not have it. It is gone and I am sick about it !! Any ideas of what I can do to make this right for him?? I have tried contacting Ironman Cozumel and they are no help whatsoever. Does anyone know who makes their medals?? I’m not getting any answers anywhere.
Thanks

I tried to find a duplicate for my best friend after he finished IMFL, to make him a framed thing, and never got anywhere.

There’s probably a couple hundred people on these forums with one of those medals. Probably half of those think that Ironman medals aren’t worth anything. Maybe some benevolent person here could help you out?

Maybe if you called the cops, the framing company would be motivated to cough it up.

You need to talk to the owner of that company. Heads need to roll.

Sounds like you’ve exhausted your options with WTC, try the options mentioned here if those idiots at the framing company can’t find it. BTW, is it a mom and pop shop or a chain?

Anyone want to make some cash and sell their medal? Does anyone know who makes the medals for ironman?

I’m doing it this year and I’ll be happy to send you mine when I get it. Course I will probably need someone to mule it up there…

Maybe offer to get him an “M-Dot” tattoo that he can never lose? Just a thought

Maybe buy him his entry into next year’s Cozumel IM? (In addition to accepting someone’s generous offer of giving you their medal.)

maybe if you tell the framing shop that they need to front the ENTIRE cost of your son doing the race AGAIN! ie; travel, lodging, race entry, pain and suffering, TIME, memories, blisters, urine soaked shoes, the works!

they might understand a little more how much ‘VALUE’ that medal REALLY has.

I’d give up on trying to locate the manufacturing company. Whoever makes the metals almost certainly has an agreement with the Ironman people not to sell them to anyone else (since “Ironman” is a trademarked name/logo). You might try posting an add in the classifieds here if you’re serious about buying one. I’m sure someone would be willing to part with theirs, just have to find the right someone and naming your price.

Sorry about your situation.

(PS metals often have the year of the event embossed on them, so you might also want to be specific about which year you’re looking for).

I’ve often wondered about those threads where everyone jumps on the bandwagon and claims that medals mean nothing to them. Time for some of those people to prove it!

I believe its Ashworth Awards.

Here get something more prestigious

That is perhaps the nicest gesture anyone has ever made!! I personally can’t imagine giving away my medal after an Ironman competition. I’m still trying to get one made for him and I would hate for you to give up your medal. Did you compete in the Cozumel Ironman in 2010?? If anyone has a medal from this can they look on the back of the medal and see if there is a manufacturer name?? If I can’t find a replacement I may take you up on your offer but I will insist on paying you for it or paying for your entrance fee to the competition.

Thanks for the tip. It turns out that they make the medals for most of the Ironman competitions but not the Ironman Cozumel. Does anyone have a Ironman Cozumel 2010 medal that they would be willing to sale?? Or does anyone have one with the name of the manufacturer?? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Holy shit mate,it 'aint a flamin kidney that we are talking about here…It is just a bit of metal that doesn’t mean nearly as much as the journey your son undertook to get it.

it really isn’t that big a deal to me - my kids have fun with my old AAU medals and then lost them. I didn’t compete last year but worked the Cruz Roja (red cross) tent. you will need to find someone to bring it back to the US though - it shouldn’t be too hard given the folks (even from ST, I’d imagine) coming from the US to race. I’ll check down here also and see if there are any extras from last year floating around. I’m happy to make your son happy and please don’t even think about pesos changing hands.

I have two from IMC just sitting somewhere in a box and would be happy to send him one. Not sure if the medals are different for different IM races to tell you the truth.

I am out of the country until Christmas but if you give me your address, I can call someone back home and have them mail it to you.

That was an awesome gesture to get it framed and an unfortunate loss. There is no manufacture on the medal. Yes it does have the date on one side in the middle, 28 nov 2010. Good luck getting this situation resolved.
