Looks like SBR Multisports retail shop is closing

I got an email about a warehouse sale which said they’ll be “online” only beginning next month. A couple of the folks that worked there were nice, but it was generally a terrible retail experience. Bad prices, crummy refund policy… great selection of top of the line stuff, but was otherwise “eh.” The bike selection went downhill, too. I used to find myself in R&A all the time, but it’s probably been a once-a-season experience the last couple years for “emergency” purchases of things like race belts, nutrition, etc.

R&A is definitely not perfect, but there’s a reason why when I need to get something from a bricks and mortar shop, I end up getting on the subway to visit them in Brooklyn… Customer service can be spotty, but they have everything and their prices are good.

I’ve been by this store each time I visit NYC and each time I leave more and more unimpressed. I tried to buy something each time I went, but couldn’t find anything I had to have…I think the last time I went (December) they had split the store into two separate stores? One running a bike rental business and the other side a very small shop (where the indoor lap pool was).

i think it was a great “concept” store in the beginning. they had lots of top-end tri gear and newbies were willing to pay retail plus prices which they needed to pay the rent. there’s too much competition out there and i think most tri consumers are too smart.
