Pondering a 50-60K Trail run for next spring/summer. I would like to hear from some folks about where they think I should go. I’m from Northern, CA and I’m looking for a destination run with some nice stuff to do outdoors in the area for a short vacation while in the area. Right now I’m not limited by geography, just somethere in North America.
I can give you pretty but it doesn’t really fit any of your other criteria.
Two Oceans 56km in Cape Town, RSA
it is not a trail run, but you will never find a better view than from atop of Chapmans Peak as you head down into Hout Bay.
It is not in North America, but if you want time away Cape Town is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities in the world, you can go check out the wine route and the garden route.
Just planting the seed for you if you want a destination race.
Crown King Scramble, usually around St Patrick’s day. Lake Pleasant to Crown King , AZ. 5 climate zones and 5000 ft of climbing from Sonoran Desert to snow…
Spokane River Run 50K in April is awesome. There’s still snow in the mountains (but not on the run course) here in April, so you can do a whole ski vacation in North Idaho or Washington before/after the race.
Unfortunately, the race site, spokaneriverrun.com appears down at the moment.
Lean Horse Ultra 50K, 50 miler, or 100 miler in late August 2010! The setting is in the beautiful Black Hills in southwestern South Dakota (Mt.Rushmore/Crazy Horse/Deadwood/Sturgis Rally etc…) on the mickelson trail. Check it out, you will not be disappointed!!!
Also the Mickelson Trail Marathon is in June and totally kicks ass!
beautiful conservation area, camping available on-site (very nice campsites), 20mins outside of tri-city area of 1/2 million people (kitchener-waterloo-cambridge). well-established race with lots of medical support and aid stations, chip timing, expo…all the amenities.
Peterson Ridge 60k in Sisters, Oregon (about 18 miles from Bend), but it is in April. Pics from the course with some of the views are here: http://www.pbase.com/gtach/rumble08
