We purchased our retirement home in Murrells Inlet, SC mid August. Last week I got a notification my homeowners insurance was being cancelled in 30 days because the prior owner made a hail damage claim. They requested scope of work and receipts the work was completed. I’ve reached out to my real estate agent but I don’t expect the previous owner will provide. Communication with the previous owner was very difficult during the purchase process. The poor guy was a widow, pushing the century mark and may have had power of attorney handling his affairs. At this point what are my options? While this is legal it sure is a crappy way for the insurance company to act. Will going to a different insurance company trigger the same result? Sorry the long post, but I am lost what my next steps are.
