The Mrs. and I are coming down to Madeira Beach this weekend for a short vacation. Looking for a lap pool. A few years ago, when I was in Clearwater, I swam as a guest at the Long Center - I thought it was a beautiful pool. Would this be the way to go again, or is there something even closer.
There are a couple closer but it depends on if you want to stay with an indoor pool. I can give you three outdoor pools; PM me. If your looking indoors then the Long Center is your only option.
Okay, TOTALLY off topic…but I’LL be in Madiera Beach this week for vacation, too! We leave for there tomorrow, and are staying through tuesday night. My parents live there. Small world–not many people know of MB. I usually just say St. pete’s when people ask where I’m going.
I DO know there is a YMCA near their house, and I believe it has a lap pool…but couldn’t testify as to the condition. When are you going? I could ask them if they know anything about it. If you’re looking for fancy schmancy pools though, I can’t help you too much. Where are you staying? On the beach? You could always throw on the wetsuit and get in some OW swimming
My snowbird parents rented a condo for the month out on Gulf Blvd, so we’re visiting for the weekend.
I think Long Center will work. It’s reasonably close and, as I remember, was a very nice facility. I’m looking forward to a little running on the Pinellas Trail as well.
It is a small world. My parents moved from the greater Cleveland area (near you) to Madeira Beach, FL years ago. The Long center is OK.
I stayed in Madeira last year and drove into St Pete to swim at the Master’s session…awesome pool, right on the ocean, great facility. If you have your bike, groups leave from the parking lot also…
Okay, apparently EVERYONE’S parents winter there
Where on the Blvd? My parents live a couple of blocks away, on the intercoastal (kinda by the drawbridge and Publix and where Leverock’s used to be.)–so i trot over and run on the beach pretty much every day when we’re there. If there on the beach, i’ll have to wave when I run past their condo
Live in the area and swim at Southwest Rec Center in Largo, probably less than 10 miles from Mad Beach. In my opinion, best pool in the area.

Not sure - I have the address (and map) at home. Just some condo rental they found on the Internet. Retirement must be nice.
No kidding!
About oh, 8 years or so ago, I spent Spring break in a condo down there…then my parents rented a condo for a few weeks…and liked it so much they bought a place. Sigh. Now they spend half the year watching dolphins, fishing off their dock, and walking on the beach. And, of course, calling me to complain when it’s “Freezing cold…only 60 degrees.”
But at least we have a free place to stay when we get a vacation day or two. And we’re headed to Spring Training on Saturday! W00t!!
There is the north shore pool in st pete where the mad dogs do a lot of their swims i believe and there is there is a heated outdoor olympic size pool, the southwest pool. I do all my swimmng in the gulf or at the long center so ive never tried both. I met some guys from penn states tri team while i was out cycling yesterday, they were staying at a grandparents condo in madeira beach too. Im at least glad that there is a better ratio of old people out, younger people in now that the temps have risen.

So we drive a half hour from Madeira to Clearwater to go to the Long Center on Friday, only to find out there was a swim meet going on all weekend!
Fortunately, the receptionist recommended we try the Kent Center a few blocks away. Jewish community center with a lap pool. A little on the warm side for us, but not too warm we couln’t get our workouts in.
A little sunshine this weekend hit the spot. Also got in some running and cycling on the Pinellas trail. Not to mention some beer drinking at some of Madeira Beach’s establishments. Back at the grind today, though.
