I’ve done a few Ironmans (Wisconsin 03, 05, and Lake Placid 06) and was planning on doing Louisville this year. After a crash while training I had to with draw from doing an Ironman this year. This has made me really want to do Wisconsin in 08 and do it right. I’m looking for a coach because I’ve done well on my own but think that if I had a coach I might be able to do really well. My background is in swimming, so bike training and run training is what is needed. Can anyone recommend a good coach with a focus on Ironmans.
I’ve been using Francois for 13 months. I won my AG at Kahuna (half) and a local Oly in a PB and finished second at SOMA (where I lost in transition) last fall, a few months after a bad bike crash, and IMAZ this year. His strengths are bike and run. PM him. He had two of us at IMAZ, me and a younger 24-25 yo who also won his AG.
I don’t use him but I am considering using him as he trains a couple people that i know and they seem to qualify for Kona every year.
Well they do have the time to train, But i have seen one of them get better over the years and he is not too expensive. at least from the prices he has on his website.
when did you go to MSU? i swam with joe brennan growing up in san diego. did you go to school with him? he was class of '03, i think. i have to admit that i hate your football team though, sorry. you have beaten us (Notre Dame) in our stadium so many times recently…oh well.
regarding coaching, first you need to figure out what your needs are. do you need someone who you can interact with in person on a regular basis? are you ok with a coach who coaches a lot of athletes remotely? if you go the latter route, make sure you don’t end up with a situation where you are paying money for someone to simply write you a schedule, unless that is what you want. there are a lot of schedule writers out there. don’t dive into anything without researching the coach a bit.

that’s because god is paying you back for stealing the 1966 Nat’l Championship from us…kill bubba
I use Mark Allen Online and have been very happy with the results. Mark Allen and his partner Luis Vargas are fantastic and reply to emails within 24hrs and usually within 12hrs. Many of their athletes go to Kona and Clearwater.
I am extremely happy with CTS and the wealth of knowledge there. They have a training center in Louisville if you are thinking you might try that after Wisconsin in 08.
