I’m getting married on August 26!
As part of the wedding festivities was a bachelor party. The best-man (also a cycling enthusiast) entered us in the two-man relay at The 24 Hours of Adrenaline race in Canmore, Alberta. (This was in lieu of a more traditional bachelor party.) We won. It was an awesome experience. The bike was awesome. The best man had offered to supply a bike for me, because I do not ride/race MTB and have no interest in perusing the sport. Nonetheless, I declined the offer, I love building & curating all types of bikes — and this LOOK 989 mountain bicycle build was a fun project!
The bike was built in late May. I did four 30 minute short-track races to practice mountain biking. Then we did the 24 Hour race. Other than those times, it’s never ever been used, not even a test drive around the block.
In the pictures is weighs 19.45 lbs (8.86 kg).
Now it’s time to unload it. All the parts have been sold. Here’s what remains:
The Lauf fork ($780 CAD). These things are sick! Performance is insane!! Crazy stiff for railing turns, and absorbs everything that’s needed. I have hopped on a few other bikes (with typical telescoping forks) in the past year or so, the Lauf is killer. Just check out what pros are riding on their non-sponsor bikes…
Size medium hardtail LOOK 989 frame ($750 CAD). IT IS A REPLICA (I heard the industry term: unothorized authentic or UA). Complete with e-post. 30mm BB. 12 x 142 rear through axle. Bought direct from China, via eBay. Seller was great. Frame arrived as promised. The decals are custom black vinyl with reflective gold. Same geometry as whats advertised on the LOOK website. In the pictures there’s a touch more than 77cm from the BB center to the top of the saddle, spacers can take it up to about 80.5cm. Obviously, going lower is pretty easy… Still need higher? Look sells loooong aftermarket e-post (sold direct by on their website). Comes with both proprietary stems, this means eight position options (80mm, 90mm, 100mm, 110mm; with ±6º inclination). Also, the seat tube spacers, brake mounting hardware (for different size routers). There’s even some extra Look decals!
I’ve also go Eggbeater 1 pedals with two sets of stock cleats, and one set of 0º race cleats ($40). A pair carbon soled size 43 Shimano MTB shoes ($30) http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/nMMAAOSwqfNXjsXh/s-l225.jpg, and a pair of size 43 Fizik M5 MTB shoes ($75) http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ca/en/fizik-m5-mtb-shoes/rp-prod143330?gs=1&gclid=CIbwhJXkts4CFQovaQod3N0Nfw&gclsrc=aw.ds (both are in great shape).
Everything is located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.
