Look 596 still competitive?

Hello, this ist my first post so please don’t kill me when I make a mistake. This won’t be my attention.

Ma name is Arno, I’m 48 years old and from Germany, love my wife and my old P2. My 2016 season will end next Sundaa and I want to buy a new bike/Frame for 2017. One of my absolutly dreambikes is still the Look 596. In my eyes it’s an absolutly beauty. I have an offer for the Frame for about 2k bucks. This is cheap comparing to the originalprice but it isn’t cheap for a seven year old nos-Frame. For 2.000 $ I can get for example an actual and brand new Argon 18 E-117. So here is my question: Do you think the 596 ist still competitive to a new 2.000$-frame or shall I buy a E-117 or a similar actual Frame? Thanks for your Statements/opinions.

Arno

Sounds like too much money for 7 year old technology.

Probably you’re right. But in 2009 it was a 5,5k$-Frame.

I feel your pain. The Look 596 in Mondrian colors is my absolute favorite bike. With that said I couldn’t pull the trigger mainly due to the integrated seatpost. Yes I know if has a small amount of adjustment but it’s not something I’m 100% comfortable with.

What I would say is that if you buy a bike that motivates you to ride, that’s probably the best investment you can do along with having a great position. If you think you’re “settling” for another bike you may have regrets later.

Whatever you decide. Good luck.

It sounds like it has an emotive place in your heart, and that counts for a lot. A Shelby Mustang (for example) isn’t the fastest or most modern car, but if it sets your pulse racing…

If you could find a way of routing the cables internally behind the stem, I think that would make a big difference; that and some Tri Rig brakes.

Get the frame that will give you better position and the one that you like better, the peatier the bike the harder you ride it ;). Difference between TT frames are marginal. Those 2 bikes have slightly different geometry, Argon being more aggressive, are you flexible enough to ride Argon?
Bottom line they are both competitive, it is all about position, engine and looks.

Thank you, guys.

I can’t say if the E-117 is any faster than the 596; if you go with the 596, remember that the ISP makes hard to travel by plane and electronic shifting might not be installed
.

The Look was never a top frame aerodynamically. There are lots of much faster frames for $2000 (you can get a Shiv complete w/basic components for $2200).

That all being said, the Look is a very sexy looking bike. It just depends if you value form or function.
