Look 585 or Pinarello F3:13

Folks,

Looking into getting a road bike and have narrowed it down to the Look 585 or Pinarello F3:13. Anyone have any experiences on the Look 585? I know the F3:13 isn’t full out yet…but maybe someone rides the Pinarello F4:13?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Not to sound like a typical ST jerk…neither! Why not for that money get a custom Litespeed or Elite?

No problem…how does Elite work? I don’t much about their bikes.

Come to philly and visit the shop…you’ll be hooked. For the price of travel and the bike you’ll still be less than either of those bikes.

I have a 585 and I think it’s a pretty nice bike. Put one summer’s worth of mileage and races (30+) on it so far. Good all-around ride - comfortable, stiff, very light. Ridden off-the-shelf by Credit Agricole, so it’s certainly up to anything you can give it.

Well, when I spent nearly 6 months test riding bikes, I REALLY liked the Pinarello F4:13. I rode it for some time on 3 separate occasions. I was number 2 on my list (or maybe 3). I ended up with the Cervelo Soloist though

A friend of mine rides a new Look 585. Nice bike with Campy Chorus. Very nice looking frame. He has owned a number of high end road bikes but really like the 585.

How’s that? The Joule Carbon frame/fork is $3,399 retail (and it’s not even a full carbon frame). The 585 is $3k (with an arguably better and lighter fork).

that’s for me to know and you to find out.

No, the travel thing wouldn’t work with the carbon frame, but otherwise it would…

He’s looking at top-end, full carbon frames. At least that’s how it looks to me.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the F3:13 is a complete bike with Ultegra for $3200, while the F4:13 is only offered as a frameset.

Damn. That’s not bad at all.

Thanks for the input and thoughts. I never thought it would be this difficult to make a decision on a bike. But when the wife (she wears the pants) says it’s okay to get a bike…this chance may never come around again.

In that case, buy the new 595 in white. It’s even better than the 585.

I was thinking about it - but isn’t the integrated seatpost supposed to be a bitch to travel with? I’m planning on doing some rides around the West Coast and will need to pack it up.

Personally Pinarellos excite me much more than Looks do (purely subjective). More objectively - one caveat I have to offer is that most of the variation in top tube length across the sizes on the F4:13 (and the 3:13 will be the same) is from STA change so the reach of the frames only changes by 12mm across the sizes(46cm-59cm). The 585 varies by 40mm so it may be easier to find one that fits properly.

I would think that the F3:13 would more accurately be compared to the 565 or 555 though – a slight downgrade from the higher end models. Looking at the 2007 Look catalogue I notice that the stylish looking 565 Origin with Ultegra is US$4k

the geo on the look 585 and Pinarello are drastically different. The Pinarello is more of an everyman’s frame with a more relaxed upright position while the Look is a race bike. A more comparable Pinarello frame would be the Paris Carbon, which would be my choice.

That could be taking it a little far, HTAs and rake are much the same. The only real difference is the HT length = higher bars but no less a race bike. A Specialized Roubaix gives a relaxed, upright ride - quite different from the Pina
