Long sleeve summer shirt for running/cycling (cloth sunscreen)

Hi All:
A friend of mine needs to keep the sun off of her arms for a while. Can any of you recommend a long sleeved shirt for hot weather activity? Basically a cloth sunscreen with highly breathable fabric.
Thanks,
Jim

Form fitting or loose fitting?

For form fitting apparel, any white, long sleeve compression top will work really well. Target, Walmart, Under Armour, Adidas, Nike, ect, all sell them.

Loose fitting is a bit tougher because a lot of the highly breathable fabrics don’t have complete sun protection.

Works pretty well.

If it doesn’t have to be form-fitting (or, if her form is a rather round one), the Assos Mille Long Sleeve is great. It’s not skin-tight so I wouldn’t race in one, it’s rated UV50 (same, I believe, as most cycling stuff?) and is very breathable. In very dry climates (such as mine) it actually feels cooler with than without, since the skin itself doesn’t heat up from direct sun.
I just bought one - yes, it’s mighty expensive, but I know Assos stuff lasts, and with my next A race in October, I have to put in hundreds of kilometres in the desert sun to prepare… I’d rather save myself the sun exposure.

Arm Coolers are great. White and good at wicking away sweat. Any of major brands will work - can find LG, Zoot, etc. for around $30. Best is that you just wear them with any of your regular bike/run gear.

Since this is a request for a women, then the “see-thru” issue becomes important. In this case, I would also recommend the arm sleeves as she can wear her normal shirts/jerseys/tops.

Columbia sportswear makes a long sleeved shirt, nice a loose fitting. I thionk its rated at SPF50 and wicks like crazy. My favorite summer running shirt. Called Omnifreeze-zero

I use “heat gear” white UA. It wicks sweat so I have never noticed it being significantly hotter than skin honestly.

For highest UPF (100+) but not as good technical/wicking, sun precautions is great. I always run in a sunprecautions shirt in training. Not good for racing as isn’t tight though

Hi,
No shirt to recommend… Just try this one.
I know it doesn’t work for everyone, but get out there early! I do my workouts at sunrise or earlier. I enjoy the coolest part of the day, and don’t have to worry about sunscreen or long sleeves at all.

Just had my first two training sessions with my Craft Cool Long sleeve, and while I can’t claim I stayed cooler than going no-shirt I’m sure my skin will thank me in the long run. I think 90 degrees and humid will suck whatever you wear though, so I’m more apt to blame the whether for my meltdown than the shirt. It has a nice fit - form fitting without being super tight like a compression shirt.

It is white and very see-through when wet, so something to keep in mind if its for a lady.

Light colored UnderArmour heat gear for the win. Stuff is awesome.

I bought some sun sleeves from voler.com. White and seem to work quite well. Sleeves are nice as you likely don’t want to have to keep running in the same smelly shirt all the time or else you have to wash it a lot.

As someone who has had to try a bunch of sunscreens to find one that doesn’t cause me to break out in hives (Kinesys and zinc oxide FTW!)… I’ve definitely tried some alternatives to sunscreens:

I’ve done a bit of running in this shirt - http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/womens-polarized-sun-hoody?p=52275-0-498, but think it may be better suited for hiking/climbing… or days that aren’t super hot.

My boyfriend has had positive things to say about the Zoot arm coolers, and I’ve seen quite a few others out in similar stuff. http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodZT_0203201.html?utm_source=google&utm_term=ZT_0203201&utm_campaign=datafeed_compshopeng&utm_medium=productLink&skuID=ZT-0203201-WHT-L&gclid=COqdl9aJgrgCFYhxQgodrlQAvQ

I’ve also tried the De Soto Sport Cool wings for cycling over a tri top. Careful that the back part fully covers the all of the skin exposed by the racer back. Very nice if you can keep putting water on the fabric - feels great in the wind on the bike. http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodDE_CW.html

I’m a bit late to reply, but I run in the form fitting wicking Craft Long Sleeve Cooler shirt. I also cycle in it. Recommended. Got mine for around $30. I wear a sports bra underneath, and yeah, you can see the bra, but who cares–it’s a sports bra.
