Long sleeve shirt for sun protection in extreme heat / humidity?

I live in central Florida. Frequently, I must be outside when it is well above 85".
I am a freak about sun protection. I am spending a fortune on sunblock and sunscreen. It takes awhile to put on and is a mess to wipe off.
I’d like to try a long sleeve running shirt designed for sun protection.

Can someone just mention a few long sleeve running shirts designed for sun protection and max cooling?

have you tried de soto’s skin coolers? that’s what i use.

great. Just placed an order the DeSoto.

btw:
I looked at the Under Armour’s “Men’s HeatGear Flyweight Run Long Sleeve” but they are all sold-out on Amazon and even the Under Armour site itself. Amazon sells “Men’s UA HeatGear Flyweight Run ¼ Zip” but there is no mention of SPF.

anyway, thank you.

I’ve been extremely happy with Running Warehouse. They carry a variety of long sleeve running shirts: http://www.runningwarehouse.com/catpage-MRLSTOP.html

X2 on deSoto skincoolers. I’ve also worn the s/c wings under a tanktop for many hot + long races (IMC, Comrades, see my profile pics). For IMWA I wore a long sleeve rashguard which worked OK but the deSoto stuff is way better. AP

Just so you are aware. Products like the Desoto and other long sleeve shirts, wings, sleeves are awesome for sun protection. They can range from effective to complete shit for advertised cooling. It all depends on how humid the environment in which you’re wearing them. For example, up in the mountains of the Pac NW = excellent cooling effect. Wearing them around the gulf coast region = complete shit. They “cool” due to the evaporative cooling effect. Which is non-existent in very humid environments and actually makes you warmer. So the trade off wearing sleeves in very humid conditions is yes, it will protect you from the sun but your skin will actually feel warmer.

There will be people chiming in claiming it cooled them down in humid conditions too. They don’t know what they’re talking about and don’t understand how these products work. Ignore these comments.

X2 on DeSoto skin coolers. I have very fair skin (red haired) and I need these to prevent dangerous sun exposure.

Another vote for DeSoto skincooler gear.

There are no other products like De Soto. With all due respect to you, while what you wrote my apply to other brands, you incorrectly described how De Soto Skincooler works. Our fiber does not cool due to, as you state, “evaporative effects.” Skincooler works due to the fiber dispersing the moisture more evenly across the fabric, both through the hollow fibers and through the channels knitted with the fibers, thus creating a more evenly moistened garment. So the slightly breeze, even from body movement will offer cooling when combined with the shade it is offering from the sun. So if it does not work for you, it does not mean it does not, or will not for others. Of course there is no such thing and refrigeration (as defined in physics), so if you want to get more comfortable in that humid heat, train more in it.

I just used the long sleeve cooling jacket for a club bike ride - testing it out for Calgary 70.3 next weekend. It was awesome

FWIW I live in CFL as well and have had good results with the white Under Armor heat gear. DeSoto makes nice stuff too.

OP just pick this up. I’ve gone through the past 2 generations of this shirt and could not be happier. It’s worth the investment.

+1 They work great!

I would use removeable sun sleeves so you can take them off if you’re too hot. North of 85 degrees I would usually be riding without them. I’ve been using a cheap ebay brand for years that I like. They are so cheap you can just replace them every 6-12 months.

Yes I’ve used both the sleeves and the top. I prefer the sleeves. Emilio if your listening a short sleeved cooler shirt and sleeves would be great

X2 I would love a short sleeve version of the skin cooler shirt. Identical, just short sleeves. If I could use a sewing machine. I’d alter mine myself.

For 2016 we will have a short sleeved tri top, with full front zipper, made of Skin Cooler fabric on the sleeves, sides and back combine with a new Skin Cooler “Octomesh” fabric on the front. This will offer more ventilation in front while making the trip top about 50% lighter than our current one. I will post a sneak preview image of this product when I have it shot.

Good to know but I’d still prefer a t-shirt version for running races
.

I think a decent tailor will alter one of our long sleeves for about $10 or so to your sleeve length preference.
