Long ride to long run

This question is stupid do to the fact the ony true answer is “It’s up to the individual.” but when have I let stupidity stop me before?

I am gearing up for a century in August. My body is not responding well to training so I will need to really put all my energy into building a good amount of bike time. I will still build up to doing 2-3 one hour runs a cycle (10 days).

After finishing the century I want to begin to get ready for a half-marathon in the first of December. So the stupid question is…

How long of a long run should I start with after the century? How much will my bike fitness help? Why did Spot have to die? Why doesn’t Dan return my phone calls? Why did Cathy have to get that restraining order? Why does the dog tell my to do bad things? Why am I a bad boy? Why Mommy?! Why is Tibbs so bad Mommy?!!!

I think it’s time to stop listening to those little voices in your head.

But they are my only friends. Only my shadow friends really understand me.

After your century, start off your half-marathon training with a 4-6week period where training sessions are all more or less the same duration. After that period one of those sessions can progressively get longer.

Century training, one hour runs…It’s all good, don’t sweat it. You’ll be fine for the 1/2.

Your bike training will help less than you think it should. Sorry.

As for training – frequency before duration, duration before intensity.

Start with a cycle of running 6 times a week (say) at a duration and intesity that you can do 6 times a week.

Then add duration to one run. Then add duration until you can’t stand it anymore. Then add a little intensity.

Then you’ll be all over this stuff and so you can mix it up anyway you want.

Good luck,
matt
