As a long time fitter who has faced many challenges getting the cockpit length riders have preferred over the years, I don’t think fundamental geometry or positions have undergone the paradigm change that many others believe has occurred. We don’t need longer geometry so much as we need normal stems, and aerobars with large adjustment ranges.
Riders are riding a little longer because fitters have collectively figured out that the old F.I.S.T 90 degree confirming angle is probably a little off. And longer is more aero and more comfortable. But this is detail work.
