London Marathon 2025 Race/Prediction thread - the most stacked marathon ever?!

We are now just 1½ week away from the 2025 London Marathon with a field never seen alike before for a marathon!
9 men under 2:05 (and Jacob Kiplimo has his debut on the distance!). And of course also Alex Yee’s marathon debut, can he make the Olympics cut off?

On the women’s side we have 3 women under 2:13 including Sifan Hassan, Assefa and Chepgetich (2:09)!

More importantly (to me, anyway) today is the 42nd anniversary of the 1993 London Marathon which Joe Strummer of The Clash finished in 4:13

Q: Didn’t you once run in the Paris Marathon?

Joe: Yep. I ran three of them.

Q: Correct me if I’m wrong but is it also true that you never trained for any of them?

Joe: You shouldn’t really ask me about my training regime, you know.

Q: Why?

Joe: Because it’s not good and I wouldn’t want people to copy it.

Q: Don’t make me beat it out of you.

Joe: Okay, you want it, here it is. Drink 10 pints of beer the night before the race. Ya got that? And don’t run a single step at least four weeks before the race.

Q: No running at all?

Joe: No, none at all. And don’t forget the 10 pints of beer the night before. But make sure you put a warning in this article, “Do not try this at home.” I mean, it works for me and Hunter Thompson but it might not work for others. I can only tell you what I do

The biggest temptation on the London Marathon is to run into a pub along the route

Wow, the 2025 London Marathon sounds like it’s going to be an incredible race! With such a stacked field on both the men’s and women’s sides, it’s anyone’s guess who will come out on top. I’m really excited to see Jacob Kiplimo and Alex Yee make their marathon debuts; their performances could shake things up. On the women’s side, it’ll be thrilling to watch Sifan Hassan, Assefa, and Chepgetich battle it out. Regardless of who wins, this race is sure to be a memorable one with such a high level of competition!

Yup, too bad there is no free view in the US.

Sorry to hijack once again, but since I follow Steve Rapport on the socials (fantastic photog, BTW; Bob Gruen-quality, I’d say), this link popped up

I must say, this “magazine” (and they DO offer physical copies) really resonates with me, in form & content — they have “The Weird Issue”
