LOL - my oh my what a fickle bunch of dopers we are

I think that it is great that the folks at Roth took a step up and tested AG’ers. I think that it is odd however that some are saying what a great idea it is that they tested.

Now, go back to about a year ago when I had an offer from a local lab (Quest) offer to test at no charge for Rockman I hear all the many reasons why it was that I had no reason or right to test AG’ers…

So - presuming that I can get testing for AG’ers at Rockman weekend 08 (for the half race, not the sprints)…has the thoughts changed on it being a good or bad idea? I presume that it is now a good idea since the feedback Roth is getting.

Does not matter what anyone else thinks. What do you want the reputation of Rockman to be? What do you want
your reputation as an RD to be?

Dave

Just have all of the athletes sign a statement before the race stating that they have never, under any circumstances, even thought of taking any PED. Further have it state that they have never known or even dialed the phone number of any doctor who has sold PED’s. Lastly if it is found out later that they were lying make them give all the race schwag back for your race and any race they have done in the last year.

yeah but did you see the meeting girls post that suggested a figure skater triathlon mixer? maybe i have been in the airport bar for 3 hours too long but I think that drug testing age groupers is a good idea. There cold be the ass wipe doper wave and then the booze in the system wave. Would level the playing field. I think I could be a serious competitor in the very bombed 2 nights before an im group…

Save the money, use it to pay personal water carriers for late finishers.

Are you implying that if he does not test he will have a bad reputation? Or if he tests he will have a bad reputation? I fail to see how testing or not testing will enable or not enable him to have a good or bad reputation. Please explain.

Brain, why try to read negatives into what I wrote?

Want to try again, but read it positive, which is sure how I wrote it!!

Dave

i have a feeling chip’s “rep” will not be affected much by the decision to test or not too test … although I think your inentions are noble

These are triathletes you are talking to. No one cares unless it affects them directly. Let someone on dope beat them out of a podium slot or take an age group slot away and we will hear about it.

Speaking from experience, as someone who has implemented and enforced a drug screening program that has conducted hundreds of drug tests. You will not get to choose your reputation, that will be done for you and it will be both positive and negative.

Are you testing the podium people and/or randomly testing the rest of the ham n eggers?

For some reason I find testing of AG’rs to be pretty comical.

Hmmm … might be the only “local” race that does! Might just set a precedent. I’ve often wondered about some … Would love to see about 10% of the guys passing out as well

Are you clean doc??? huh?

well are ya punk!!

You wanna’ piece of me punk!

Hell ya’ clean! I’m a competitive SOB, but I don’t even have a coach! If I was going to spend any more money on this infernal sport, I’d start there before EPO - plus, I know too much about the drug’s side effects and I’m scared to take about anything!

plus, I know too much about the drug’s side effects and I’m scared to take about anything!

That’s right! He prescribes only…

Yep, I agree, but one has to look at themselves in the mirror, and family, and decide what they see.

I know I had to quit being a CO RD of the Lake of the Pines Tri after 3 years since I found out
the course measurement, and what we told folks was off. Also, no matter how cold the water got,
the other RD with our new GM would not allow wet suits. So, I walked. Yep, I have had both positive
and negative comments for this.

I had a race this season where I knew the water was too warm for USAT rules, so I swam w/o a wetsuit,
and screwed my USAT ranking. Again, I have been told by some that they were impressed,
and others I take all the fun out of our sport because I believe in following rules in place for safety.

So yep, I understand.

Now, if it were me, I would only test the podium folks at a USAT championship race. I would love to see the ITU
test ALL the racers at worlds. And yes, I think it would be great for our sport to take a leadership position
and test ALL the racers in Hawaii pre race, meaning, do not let the dirty racers race. (Yes I do understand
if you do it right, you will never be caught, but who cares, we got to start somewhere.)

Dave

Again this is all theory. I bet that I could get a sponsor to test ALL of the folks at Rockman 08 for the basics…sure, most would be a waste of time. The issue falls into what do you do with the results? I am willing to bet that someone would be willing to pop for a study of a percentage of even plain jane AG’ers that may dope during training - and not during their A race.

Don’t get angry at him; it wasn’t clear which way you were meaning to go with it. It could easily be interepreted either way.

Not angry at anyone. But, the first time someone reads a post, and responds with a positive half full view,
I will fall off my chair.

What the hell is that supposed to mean jackass? You think he is going off half cocked for no reason?
