In today’s paper there was an article about a local triathlete nominated for an ESPY (ESPN Sports Award) for disabled female athlete.
Her name is Amy Pamiero-Winters and she is a below the knee amputee who has done a 2:25 olympic and a 3:05 marathon. The ESPY’s are based on online votes.
Apparently there is a link on ESPN.com that you can go to and vote for her. It would be cool for a triathlete to win this award! If you get a chance, check it out and vote.
And for the record I don’t know her, only seen her on training runs and occasionally at races, so I have no personal stake on seeing her win!
I know Amy and have raced with her several times. She is flat out awesome fast. She has won triathlons on her everyday leg before she got a race leg. She demolished the marathon world record for female amp. Has won worlds twice I think, and has NO competition in the PC category…no offense to my other PC friends:) She doesn’t have much competition in her age group against able bodied either though! Go vote, then go see her race NYC tri, which is our PC national championships.
Funny thing is I live in a small town and there are only about a half a dozen people from here that even do Tri’s and I’ve never met her. See her running around town all the time though.
Several of the people I run with at lunch sometimes run with her off and on, but they don’t like to cause they say she’s too fast for them!
She’s a great person…very approachable. She is a competitor though as her results show. If you ever catch up with her, tell her David K from the PC team says howdy!
Will do. I know that it seems like every couple of weeks she runs with the group I run with sometimes too, but it’s never on the same day. They are constantly telling me that I should have ran last week or yesterday or so on cause she ran with them.
