What if livestrong foundation hosted a invitational race the week before or after kona, same location, coarse everything with all the top guys and a huge prize pot
Im sure livestrong could easily come up with enough sponsors to cover $1 or $2 to see Lance race, and hopefully the prize monie will atract the top pros over kona

I think that is the greatest idea ever.
Think about it, The beginnings of Ironman were really just a few people getting together to go long and it developed into what it is today.
Who better to launch a new endurance series than Lance Armstrong and Livestrong.
The event would be packed with live strong supporters and others and would have the added benefit of adding another option for endurance athletes to race, thereby reducing overall race fees through competition.
Heck, it could be bigger than the Ford Ironman one day. It’s a way bigger vision but something I think Lance and Livestrong could handle.
Seriously, think about it, it could also raise lots of money for cancer, think about how much money Providence Equity is making, what so their shareholders can get richer? Far better for it to benefit cancer research etc.
If it does go through the starter of this thread and myself get a stake! Lol

Don’t WTC usually have host towns contracted - so no other race can be held for a stipulated amount of time prior and post? Or is this not the case with Kona?

It would be fantastic but I suspect they would have real issues with getting permits. I think there’s something in the contract between WTC and the local organizers that prevents another race to be held in the same area. I seem to recall there such a provision in the WTC contract with The Woodlands for IMTX.
While the short term revenge of stealing the thunder from Kona this year sounds good… a more realistic path might be putting together a new organization under the Livestrong umbrella and build up the number of races and racers over a couple of years, then put together a championship race close enough to Kona to cause them some pain - - does not have to be Kona- - there are certainly plenty of exotic places to hold the championship that might be viewed as a change of pace and welcomed by even seasoned Kona folks. It would be great if he could do something to pay WTC back for their lack of support

I would rather qualify for it. If there are two races there then it ruins the thing that make kona special. I wouldn’t want to fly all the way out to Hawaii to do it if just anybody could do it (although it is sorta like that now).
I wouldn’t mind a Livestrong race (or series) but I would rather have them in the continental US at new locations.

for the 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 time…livestrong is not set up to cure cancer. They are set up to provide awareness about cancer and support to individuals/family members with cancer. But still, it wouldn’t be the best use of their $$$

I think everyone realizes that but most of us are pretty sure most people in the world are aware of cancer. Personally, that is why I don’t support Livestrong but rather help those actually doing research but that is a personal stand.
Livestrong is a powerful brand and for them to use their name and resources so Lance can race is something that would not sit well with a lot of people, including me.
