Saw references in a couple other posts, have an 08 LS Saber was a warranty repalcement. Have probably 500 miles on it. Just before my IMAZ tuneup, the carbon seat post/collar area started creaking, also makes a popping sound if I hit a bump. Sometimes, but not always. It’s been greased and looked at, but it still does it. I don’t *think *it’s an issue, other than annoying to me.
If I loosen the collar and then re tighten, it’s stops for a while but always comes back.
Well, try the carbon compound unless your bike has some structural issue: http://www.bikesomewhere.com/bikesomewhere.cfm/product/280/2443/27578
Get a jar and you’re set for life. I’m using this compound for a year. It helps not only avoid creaks but also eliminates slippage. You can use it also between stems and handlebars to increase friction.
Ditto on the red carbon grip paste…FSA, Ritchey and others.
In the long run call Litespeed and plead your case. we were able to recently get a new collar that was configured with a bit more vertical surface area and went from 2 to 4 4mm fix bolts. It helps.
Totally IMO (and I am not a materials engineer or designer by trade or by training), Litespeed went a little skimpy on the vertical depth of the insert in the frame, so that an avg to greater amount of seat post out of frame will have the chance to really overwork the insert that is there, that can lead to come dreadful creak and clunk sounds… search one of the threads for the lindseed oil fix.
Yeah, I was surprised, my older (std) seat post went into the seat tube 7+ inches, this was a lot less. Having a ti seat post assembly that cracked, which LS thought was perhaps caused by my seat being too high, I would like it to go deeper.
I have an '07 saber with the same issue. I’ve tried the carbon grease, etc. It works for a few rides and then the issue arises again. A bit annoying. Good luck.
